I have a Sako TRG 42 .338LM. It has the black stock with blued 1:12 twist barrel, Sako factory brake, Near 25MOA base, Harris BiPod stud, Sako carrying sling swivels and black nylon strap. The rifle has 126 rounds down the tube exactly, and shoots like a son of a b.....

I'm just tired of having to mortgage my house every time I want to upgrade this stick. I also have to drive over four hours to a range where I can get the performance that I want out of it. I guess you can call it buyers regret. I do love the quality and accuracy that this rifle bring to the table. I just can't find any reason to keep it.

Help! I can't make up my mind......

Re: Thinking of selling my TRG

I have bought and sold many rifles, mainly because one suited me better than the other, not only suited me better but suited my shooting conditions. I rarely shoot past 1000 yards, I find my .308 as an inexpensive precise rifle that fills the void perfectly.

Do you feel like this gun will be used in the future for any long range engagements? Do you plan on using this in competitions? Would you be better off selling it and buying something more affordable and suited for your conditions?

I love the .338, but I cannot justify having one, at all. It would be a safe queen. I don't like safe queens, I would rather have a rifle that I am going to use, and use time again.

My answer, sell it.

Re: Thinking of selling my TRG

It sounds like you have an awesome setup that's already paid for. Based on what you listed, you don't seem to need any expensive upgrades. I personally am in the process of buying a TRG-22 with all of the expensive Sako accessories, so I understand how the extras can get expensive. That said, once I'm done, I'll have a gun that should last a lifetime.

Having to drive 4 hours to shoot sucks. I choose to live in the sticks in large part so that I can enjoy hunting, fishing, and shooting whenever I want.

Re: Thinking of selling my TRG

Part of the problem is I would like to get started in competition longer range shooting. Most of the comps that are reasonably close to where I live have a .308 or less restriction.

Matt, I have most of what I would like to have on the rifle. I have bad habbit of always wanting more. I guess you can call it Dick Measuring, or The Joneses. I would also like to get the Sako BiPod, Sako ITRS, Sling with Quick Detachable swivels, and maybe a folder.

Ninja, I do think once I find some thing else to shoot, the Sako is going to become a safe queen. I can't justify holding on to a rifle of that valve if I may not shoot it.

I guess I may end up putting in in the WTS section......

Re: Thinking of selling my TRG

only problem is euro optics currently is selling them for $2400 new and i assume you probably paid more than that. i would put it up for trade for what you want. you are much more likely to find a good trade than an outright sale. there was a rifle just like yours that was on here for quite and i am not even sure it ever sold.

don't get the wrong impression i love sako's and own a trg 22, i am just trying to be honest with you so you know what to expect when changing directions.

if you really like the sako trg sell it and get in on the eurooptics special run of trg 22's in 260.

Ninja Pirtle,
I too have trouble reading your thread entries unless I position the babe out of view. Can't seem to keep my eyes on the type if she is in view. Obviously she knows her attributes. I'll bet she was kind to her parents, and got good grades...

As for the TRG, that is the precise reason I don't have a 338. I just don't have any reasonable way to justify that much expense when I would rarely use it. I have 308's, and a McMillan M40 in 300 win mag, so I too would really need a much longer distance range to justify getting a 338 for anything other than a safe queen. I'm just not rich enough to justify that expensive of a safe queen.

Our local precision rifle matches set 30-06 and 8mm mauser as top end power levels allowed, because more powerful cartridges do too much damage to the plates they use.

Re: Thinking of selling my TRG

If it’s all about who has the biggest stick in your area you must have that covered if the ranges are 308 and under, I would hang onto it if it’s paid for, not so much as to the bragging rights but because of its quality and the fact it’s yours. Just get a 308 build up and shoot all you want if that’s the case. You have your initial investment in your 338 it won’t break ya much more other then ammo.

Just my opinion
