...It's not a gun. Its made for fighting, and its lots of fun.
So this started out as a Remington SPS Tactical .308. It had the Hogue stock etc. 20" barrel.
Over the years I have been slowly improving upon it.
First thing I did was work up a load for it:
Norma Brass (neck sized)
175 SMK seated to 2.810" OAL
WLR primer
42.4 GR IMR 4064
Clocks a little over 2,600 fps.
So with this I was getting about .8" groups at 100 yards. Not bad.
Next I did a poor-mans true up of the action using a Sharpie, Flitz and a wooden dowel. With much effort I managed to get about 90% contact.
This helped tighten up the groups to about .6" at 100 yards. Getting better.
Then I went crazy. I put on an HS Precision stock, adjusted the trigger to 2.5 lbs, got a tacticool bolt knob installed and canned the Super Sniper for a NF NXS with a 20MOA base and TPS rings.
I went out today and shot the latest setup for the first time with very pleasing results.
Overall target (middle target was sighting in of the new scope. Circled in blue)
Close up of the sighting in group
The NF seemed to track very well. I didn't do any extensive testing just adjusting for sight in. Example the first shot you see high/left, I dialed down exactly 2 MOA and you can see by the second shot there to the left it is 2 MOA lower. Windage adjustments were just as accurate. I guess that is what you get when you finally drop some coin on glass.
OK. Time to get down to business and try to settle in with the new setup with some 5 shot groups. I did some fine tuning of elevation and windage between groups thus the change of POI. By the 3rd group I was on.
1rst group:
Just a tad over 1". Well the new stock definitely felt different and I was still settling in on getting a consistent shoulder placement and cheek weld. Also I noticed that I didn't quite have all the parallax adjusted out so I fine tuned that a bit before group 2.
2nd group:
About .875" Getting better. More settling
3rd Group:
Even better. About .585"
4th Group
Booyah! About .345"
