This is why I put a Bartlein on my AIAW

Re: This is why I put a Bartlein on my AIAW

Nice job.

If you take a look at my AE thread you will see that the factory barrel produced three groups out of the five that were under .441" off a bipod and rear bag.

I am becoming a believer that AI rifles are just stupid accurate.

How was your AW shooting with the stock barrel? How many did it have through it when you replaced it?

Re: This is why I put a Bartlein on my AIAW

I wish me or my AW would shoot like that, preferably at the same time. That's not exactly just another .4 group. On the other hand, it is just one group and not a series of 3 of 5 sub one half minute groups. Still, that's one sweet group. Where did you get the barrel?

Re: This is why I put a Bartlein on my AIAW

Amen to Bartlein barrels!

The 5-shot, 200 meter group below still brings a smile to my face. It was from my Sako that Bartlein barreled for me. I was shooting from sandbags, which I normally don't do. It's nice to know that much accuracy is there if I ever want it.

That's the best part, the barrel is Bartlein, but Frank's crew also did the entire installation.

I know gunsmithing isn't what they're known for, but at the time, they were one of the few outfits I would find who would tackle my metric-threaded Sako. I'm glad I chose them!

Re: This is why I put a Bartlein on my AIAW

Tim over at GAP did the work. I did not mean to bash Factory AW barrels with this thread. I just wanted to really pay homage to Bartlein.

It was my time trying my varget load. I think Im going to switch to varget from IMR4064 in this rifle.

Thanks for the compliments. I could not wait to show you guys.

I don't think anyone took it that way. At least I didn't. I was just wondering if you burned out the factory tube or if you just wanted to try something different.

Out of curiosity do you know what chamber reamer they used?

I have no idea about the reamer.
I gave my old barrel to David of Shark Suppressors.

It shot alright, but not like this.

Re: This is why I put a Bartlein on my AIAW

I'm sorry I was on vacation and am late to the punch with this thread!

I have a factory AW that shoots great. I consistently get .5 MOA 5 shot group accuracy out of it with factory Gold Medal Match, and I am no pro by any means! Yesterday I shot 5 groups back to back measuring an inch or less at 230 yards. I have yet to shoot a 5 shot group like the one you posted though. I shot 3 through the same hole one day, and I had a friend driving it yesterday who put 4 through a hole that was about .5 (including the bullet diameter) before throwing the group with a 5th shot.

I have a Barlein on order though that will get here in a couple months, it will be my next barrel. I have put 1000 through this one in the six weeks I have owned it, so I figure it will only be a matter of time before I burn it out.

Re: This is why I put a Bartlein on my AIAW

Oh, and an FYI to everyone in this thread:

I talked to Stacey at AI and they are going with Bartein 5r's for their replacement barrels now. You can order them chambered in other calibers as well- such as .260 remington. While they are recommending the armorers course, they are no longer requiring it.

Can anyone confirm that this is true?

I can testify for Bartlein as well, Huntin Az's gun shoots lights out.

Re: This is why I put a Bartlein on my AIAW

i have a remgington action and i have ordered the bartlein .30 cal barrel and the rifle basix trigger for it. I need to find someone to chamber it for .308 but im super excited about it. Seeing this thread just got me anxious to get mine done. Its all going in an AICS when it gets done. What optics where you using?
thanks
RYAN

I was using a S&B 5-25x56 PMII P4F. Love it!

BTW: What is this requiring an armorer's course business about?

Re: This is why I put a Bartlein on my AIAW

I think BM11 was referring to the rumor about buying factory barrel change kits from AI; requiring an armorers course to buy one.

Don't have a clue if it is real or not but a call to stacey will answer this question.

Either way you can send your AI to Stacey for a barrel change, brake install, etc if you don't already have a barrel change kit.

Re: This is why I put a Bartlein on my AIAW

It was a requirement for a bit that to buy a rifle or a barrel change kit from AI that you attend an armorors course. They still recommend it but no longer require it.

AI North America is also utilizing Bartlein 5r barrels cut and chambered by Dave Tooley now. They can get you just about any caliber you need.

Re: This is why I put a Bartlein on my AIAW

^^^They aren't selling barrels or change kits through distributors either. They want you to buy those items direct from AINA.

Zak sells the action wrench for $249.
