No, its not genital HPV subtypes; its usually subtypes 5 & 8 in EV. There are over 100 subtypes of HPV identified. Those aren't the ones that cause cervical cancer. Patients with this condition (epidermodysplasia verruciformis) have a genetic mutation in the EVER1/EVER2 genes allowing the HPV to get out of control. Yes, they can be oncogenic (cause cancer), but they evolve into cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, not cervical or penile cancer. (BTW, the oncogenic HPV's from genital warts cause cervical cancer, not uterine/endometrial cancer) . The guy in the above links couldn't get optimal treatment because of underlying liver disease. I'm surprised Gaspari would even give him high dose Vitamin A (I assume he is monitoring his LFT's), because that causes liver toxicity with any retinoid.
