I am picking up a budget deer rifle and i don't have a 6.5 creedmore yet so that is the caliber I am going with. Other than the stock are there any glaring issues with a heavy barrel axis ii rifle for primarily hunting and occasional target fun out to 1000?(different scope for each purpose of course)

For primarily hunting I'd take a lighter barrel unless you're just sitting in a stand.

No need to change scopes. Use what you know and are used to.

I dont walk around a lot. I am on the ground but i just sit on a log i find hence the heavy barrel. Simple but it works, dont own hunting land (i get deer in the yard almost every night but the neighbors would get rather upset if i shot one.) So i cant build a stand.

I had a .308 Axis 2 when it was called the Edge (almost a decade ago?) and it was just under 1 MOA using Gold Medal Match.

It was reliable, used cheap metal mags, and did the job fine. I would not use it for PRS style stuff that involves high round count, I would not bring it on a high dollar hunting trip.

For plinking and local hunting it's probably a great choice. I don't know how it stands up to the elements as I don't hunt.

For the $, you can't really complain.

FYI, Savage customer service is horrible in my experience.
