Thoughts on bushmaster ACR

Re: Thoughts on bushmaster ACR

Didn't like it personally. The ambi-safety tends to bump into your trigger finger and you can partially knock it off of fire by taking your finger off the trigger. The full-size model also felt unwieldy and too long. They do shoot very well though, and I've got a friend who loves it.

Re: Thoughts on bushmaster ACR

I have that problem with every AR type gun I have with an ambi safety. Both my GAP-10 and my HK MR 556 have ambi safties and both are awful close to my trigger finger.

Re: Thoughts on bushmaster ACR

You might try running a search of the Hide. There have been several threads in which folks have given their impressions of/experiences with the ACR.

If somebody gave me one, I wouldn't turn it down, but I'm not going to be spending any of my hard-earned money on one! Too many other vastly superior options for similar (or BETTER) price point to consider the ACR. As I have said before in these threads...it was an excellent concept when it was originated by the geniuses at Magpul, but once Bushmaster got through with it, it was just over-priced, overrated white noise in a sea of better options!!

Re: Thoughts on bushmaster ACR

If not an ACR is there something else you're considering?

I read a magazine review between the ACR and the SCAR. Overall the ACR won. Wasn't by much but it won...

Re: Thoughts on bushmaster ACR

I'll throw in my 2 cents...
I own one. Bought it because the deal was too good to pass up. I've been intrigued by it since I first heard about it. If I were to design my own gun it would be very similar.
My complaints:
1. not enough rail space
solution - talking to DBMG about making a new rail, ideally one like the Remington mil version
2. too barrel heavy
solution - ordering a light weight profile barrel. Should save .75+ lbs. Talking to DBMG about offering barrels with hardware

My impressions:
1. very sold feeling, vague I know, just feels sold....
2. ergos are great, better than an AR
3. I like the recoil, every bit as good as my KAC e3. Recoil is back not as much up as the AR
4. every bit as accurate as my e3
4. love that it takes AR barrels and triggers (with ACR hardware)
5. have complete faith in the barrel change assembly. Very cool

Here’s where I get stumped:
I get the complaints about price. (although it’s in the same ball park as a high end AR)
I understand the frustration about how long it took to come to market.
I do not understand the argument that “Bushmaster screwed it up”. I’ve watched all the same videos from early on in the project and I don’t get it. Bushmaster didn’t screw anything up that I can see. It’s like any other project, improvements can always be made. The damn thing is a lego! I remain entertained at the ever growing ACR hater legion…I am more convinced than ever that “most” of these guys making this argument are the guys that
1. have never shot one, but damn if they haven’t read everything there is to read about one… or
2. The guys that have a SCAR and want to justify their own purchase. I’d be willing to put money on the fact that most of these SCAR fanatics/ACR haters subscribe to Soldier of Fortune…. Just sayin…..

I believe its only been out about 16 months. Give it some time. Accessories and improvements are coming. I believe it has real potential.

Re: Thoughts on bushmaster ACR

At first I didnt like mine. Then installed a PWS muzzle break and now I like it a lot. I have actually had random people shoot it and they told me they liked it better than the SCAR. Its good platform, just get the one with the tri rail or be like me and wait almost 6 months and still nothing.

Nope haven't had any problems at all. I have ran all kinds of ammo through mine and no problems at all. Also doesn't matter want kind of mag I run either.

Re: Thoughts on bushmaster ACR

I got my ACR when it first came out. I haven't had any problems. I ran all types of ammo in 223 and 556 and it works great. You can tear this rifle down and put it together in about 60 sec or less.Easy to clean. It weight about 8.8 lbs loaded But front heavy. The con: the price and no accessories Yet.Here a video I made about a year ago on my ACR

Re: Thoughts on bushmaster ACR

I don't like how the ACR feels... it doesn't balance well and is a bit heavy. The SCAR balances better and feels like a much lighter yet more solidly built rifle.

I have heard some people have figured out how to make changes to the ACR to make it balance better.

Re: Thoughts on bushmaster ACR

I like the feel of all the ones I have held, especially with the AFG, but thats a personal thing. I did read recently of the first reported Kaboom from an ACR due to bad ammo. All it did was crack the bolt and knock the magazine out. Everything else was unharmed, which speaks well for the rifles build. Winchester White Box ammo made from Twin Cities brass is what did it.
