Re: Thoughts on bushmaster ACR
I'll throw in my 2 cents...
I own one. Bought it because the deal was too good to pass up. I've been intrigued by it since I first heard about it. If I were to design my own gun it would be very similar.
My complaints:
1. not enough rail space
solution - talking to DBMG about making a new rail, ideally one like the Remington mil version
2. too barrel heavy
solution - ordering a light weight profile barrel. Should save .75+ lbs. Talking to DBMG about offering barrels with hardware
My impressions:
1. very sold feeling, vague I know, just feels sold....
2. ergos are great, better than an AR
3. I like the recoil, every bit as good as my KAC e3. Recoil is back not as much up as the AR
4. every bit as accurate as my e3
4. love that it takes AR barrels and triggers (with ACR hardware)
5. have complete faith in the barrel change assembly. Very cool
Here’s where I get stumped:
I get the complaints about price. (although it’s in the same ball park as a high end AR)
I understand the frustration about how long it took to come to market.
I do not understand the argument that “Bushmaster screwed it up”. I’ve watched all the same videos from early on in the project and I don’t get it. Bushmaster didn’t screw anything up that I can see. It’s like any other project, improvements can always be made. The damn thing is a lego! I remain entertained at the ever growing ACR hater legion…I am more convinced than ever that “most” of these guys making this argument are the guys that
1. have never shot one, but damn if they haven’t read everything there is to read about one… or
2. The guys that have a SCAR and want to justify their own purchase. I’d be willing to put money on the fact that most of these SCAR fanatics/ACR haters subscribe to Soldier of Fortune…. Just sayin…..
I believe its only been out about 16 months. Give it some time. Accessories and improvements are coming. I believe it has real potential.
