I am probably going to pick up an AE MKIII in the next couple weeks. The ones I see in stock right now are all threaded metric. Does anyone make an adapter from the metric pattern (M18?) to 5/8-24 so I can use my Cyclone with it?

Or would it just be better to get the barrel plain/unthreaded and have a reputable shop thread it right from the start?

Re: Thread adapter for AI rifles?

I was in your shoes late last summer. Although, the choice was a little easier for me since I already had a Cyclone in 5/8x24. I bought a new AIAE MKIII from Mile High Shooting. They threaded 5/8x24 in house for me. Very, very smooth transaction.

I would definitely consider that as an option, especially taking into consideration the cost of an adapter. Not that adapters are exceedingly expensive but applying that cost to the thread job will lower the overall cost.

In addition, I would prefer to not run a thread adapter, if at all possible, on a precision rifle. It comes down to the whole stacking tolerances thing. You may not have a baffle strike but it's one more thing to go wrong.

On the other hand, I do own one of Mark McWillis's (TROS) thread adapters to run a .308 suppressor on an AR in .223. That thread adapter is a true work of art, seriously!

Hope this helps!
