Thread muzzle = accuracy load change

Dropping my barrel off today for threading to put an AAC brake and suppressor on a Criterion 260 match varmint contour barrel. Assuming smith does a good job of not putting stress on barrel, am I going to see an inherent loss of accuracy, or will I need to change my accuracy load to compensate for new barrel harmonics? And help would be greatly appreciated. I'm a little worries that a load that just shot in the 2's will suddenly go away and never come back.

Re: Thread muzzle = accuracy load change

If done right you shouldn't lose any accuracy. When you put a can on it might change the harmonics and you might have a POI shift but that's easy to adjust for. A slim chance it might change the harmonics enough to have to adjust your load but in rifles I have had threaded and cans put on I haven't had any problems.

Re: Thread muzzle = accuracy load change

adding any mass to your muzzle is going to effect the harmonics. The added length effects your OBT nodes ( chris long) , the added weight (may) effect your beam bending nodes ( varmint al). How much of an effect you'll see , i dont know, probably enough to require you to tweak your charge weights alittle. Maybe a grain or so.

Re: Thread muzzle = accuracy load change

The threaded muzzle won't change anything, and the suppressor should not change anything except the zero when suppressed.

Zero it, suppressor off and then shoot it suppressor on. Check the shift.

Take the suppressor off, check the zero.

Replace the suppressor, check the shift.

If it's not repeating within the normal parameters of the rifle (IE, you have a 1/2 MOA rifle and a 1.5MOA shift it should shift back to within 1/2MOA of the previous time the suppressor was used) and you've got an issue.

Largely though, there is no issue and it should NOT affect your rifle's ability to shoot. Some folks report an increase in MV anywhere from 20-70fps (caliber, suppressor, length, etc dependent) and so the dope card may change. But the quality of groups should NOT degrade at all.

Re: Thread muzzle = accuracy load change

There may or may not be a change. Only way you'll know is to fire the first group.

At the worst, you'll need to re-work your load.

At best, nothing will change.

Everything else is "might" and "maybe".
