Looking for thread protector for Badger FTE muzzle brake. I did not find that Badger offers one on their web site.

Anyone know where I can pick one up, without having one custom built for my rifle? Needs to be 5/8 x 24 threading.

I don't care who made it as long as it is a quality product. Any help would be appreciated

Re: Thread protector for Badger FTE 5/8 x 24

What barrel size?? Do you want it to look as good as they should or do you just want it to protect your threads?
Its hard to make/sell a thread protector for a rifle that was threaded by someone else. Even knowing its threaded for an FTE break, there are things I'd need to know to make you one that would look good.

Post a pic if you can. I have thread protectors that I've made just for practice. 5/8x24. If by chance it looks like one will fit well, You can have it.

If you give me the OD of your barrel at the shoulder, the length of your threads, and a pic of your muzzle/crown, I may be able to help you out.

I actually have some on hand. Send me the measurements for your barrel and I can get one made up. I will also need to know what your crown looks like. The price is $75 and that includes supplying the thread protector, knurling it if desired, painting and shipping to you.

Re: Thread protector for Badger FTE 5/8 x 24

Thanks for your help.

I guess I was little premature on my request. I thought I might find a "generic" thread protector to attach to the gun when it gets back from having the muzzle brake installed.

Very apparent I am not a machinist and had not idea of what was involved in building a thread protector, "fitted" to a specific gun. I thought I could just find one already built and attach it to gun if I needed to remove the FTE for some reason.

I am returning my gun to X-Ring accuracy to have the Badger FTE muzzle brake installed by Woody, since he built the gun.

Woody said he could build a thread protector from scratch, not a problem, but he is not set up with a CNC machine and would have to build it by hand. This would take him about 3-4 hours. He thought Badger made one for sale, but they do not.

I was trying to save Woody the time by locating one that was already built.

Having said all of that, since there is not a "generic" thread protector readily available out there, I suppose I should just have Woody build one by hand while he has the gun. The cost would be about $150.00. Woody would build it to match the barrel and then Cerakote it to match the gun as well. I was Ok with the amount, I was just trying to save Woody the time.

Any thoughts??

Thanks to both of you guys for the offers.

Re: Thread protector for Badger FTE 5/8 x 24

Yeah, that's going to be an odd thread protector being that the barrel is turned down just before the threads to allow the clamp on the FTE. I suppose you could just counterbore for that. Probably be best if your smith makes it.

Re: Thread protector for Badger FTE 5/8 x 24

Most people on here would be doing it by hand as well, on a manual lathe. If you want it to look seamless, the person making it needs your barrel.

Your smith Woody sounds like the man for the job. $150 is very reasonable for a properly done, Cerakoted thread protector and thread job.
