Suppressors threading question

I am having my Remington 5r threaded, what thread pattern should I use? I see a lot of flash suppressors and muzzle breaks threaded to 5/8-24 is this the best i have also seen 1/2-28. What would you suggest?

If the rifle is 308, 5/8-24. If the rifle is 223, 1/2-28.

What are you putting on the rifle? Why are you threading the barrel?

Reason I ask is if you are mounting a precision device, like a sound suppressor or some brakes, you should have the host's threads matched to the device. Not all threads are created equal. The geometry of the thread can be different for different items. The length of the thread (called the tenon length) might also be different for different devices.

If you are threading for a future purchase, I suggest you wait until you have the device you want to mount already in hand. Take the rifle and device to your gunsmith for the best fit possible.

Then just get a 5/8x24 SF comp and send that with your barrel/rifle to the gunsmith. They should be able to index the device without using the supplied washers/shims. You'll be good to go.

Thank you, he has m rifle and a surefire flash hider now the compensator will come down the road. Thanks for all the help everyone!
