Tight fitting bullet...??

Hey guys, just a quick question.

I normaly only shoot 55 grains with my 223. But a week or two ago I managed to get my hands on some 75 grains.

1 box of Hornady bthp 75gr
1 box of Hornady superformance 75gr
1 box of Hornady TAP 75gr

Heres the thing. I notice with the TAP I have to give the magazine an extra bit of a push to click it into place and when Im working the bolt its very stiff. The funny thing is the TAPs shoot great, far better then the superformance and BTHP's....

Should I pass up on the TAPs, do you think Im asking for trouble shooting bullets that are tight fitting.

Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated...

Wont hurt to try them as long as they chamber ok.

The 75gr Superformance Match shoots a lot better for me then the TAP does. If its just mag fitment issue then I say shoot them up. You can always remove a little material in the feed lips to get them moving easier.

+1 on the feeding. Can you see how much clearance they have in the mag? I am sure they are a good bit longer than the 55s you have been using.

When you say "tight" fitting, I would not worry much about the mag as long as they feed for you, but if you are getting a stiff bolt that could be an issue. If you chamber them and eject the round can you see marks around the bullet? If you are getting too far up into the lands you could see pressure issues for sure.

Sounds like a OAL issue to me. Time to get some calipers out I think.

Yep. The bolt is tight. Very tight. When I was loading up the first one or two bullets I didnt think I was going to get the bolt closed. It really is a very tight fit.

Pressure issues are exactly what Im worrying about 331V8. I paid a lot of money for my rifle and I really dont want to damage it (or myself for that matter).

I havent noticed any marks on the empty shells, I'll have to wait until the weekend before I can get to the range.

Have you calipered the case neck thickness? Might be a run of unusally thick brass.Check them against what you normally shoot. I've run into this problem with Federal ammo.
