Tight Headspace?

I bought a Rem 700 in 6 Creed that the bolt operates fine without any ammo. Once it is loaded it is very tough to close the bolt, and almost impossible to get open until after it fires. I am assuming this is a Headspace issue? What would be the benefit of having one that tight? IS this something I should get fixed?

That's one of the reasons why Remington had to file bankruptcy (their quality control) Yes it looks like a headspace issue. For being 100 % sure check it out with a go/no go headspace gauges. Benefits I don't see any, if you handload you can always bump the shoulder a little bit more in order to get the case to fit but if I were you I would send the rifle back to Remington for fixing.

Well seeing that Remington doesn't chamber the 700 in 6 creed then it has shit to do with their filing of bankruptcy.

Op you need to determine if it's a heaspace issue or a freebore issue. Both are solved in seperate ways.

Color an entire round with sharpie, chamber it until you feel resistance, see where theres a mark in the sharpie indicating the interference.

Make sure the extractor and ejector are all able to operate freely. Remove if necessary for the above sharpie trick to avoid the cartridge getting pressed over into the chamber wall from the ejector pressure.

Assuming it's a brand new factory gun... They do sell one in 6 Rem - looking at diagrams between the two cartridges, it does look like you could possibly get a 6 creed to chamber in a 6 rem chamber (if you really, really, really wanted to... maybe). I would imagine it would be VERY hard to close the bolt on it (6 Rem is way more tapered than 6 Creed, but it's a longer case, too). I might be way off the mark here, so grain of salt. I've never tried such a thing. But, is it at all possible that it's actually a 6mm Remington, and not a 6mm Creedmoor?

(I'm shooting in the dark and likely an idiot, so...)
