Tikka T3 for Remington SPS

Okay, so I have a Tikka T3 forest in 300wsm. The fact is that while it's a great hunting rifle (which I do primarily) it's expensive as hell to shoot. I'm not next in a soup line but I'm not made of money either. I have a family and the bills that come with everyday life. I'm hoping I can manage an even swap.

I've never hunted down a certain rifle before so this will be an experiment. I'm pretty set on a Remington SPS tactical in 6.5cm. The ammo is much cheaper and I can source it locally without driving to Bass Pro. That said I have a few questions y'all might be able to answer.

What are the chances of an even swap for a Tikka T3? How often do you find a Remington SPS rifle in pawn shops? If put into a Bravo chassis or Stocky's LRC composite stock, are offhand hunting shots more difficult?

I love the Tikka action but I'm in love with that Strata stock for the 700. The stocky price is really a great deal for what it is with a baked in camo finish. It's right at $300 and I can't seem to source anything that looks that good for a Tikka. The 700 is just amazing for aftermarket upgrades and accessories. Tikka has some but you're going to pay a pretty penny for any of them.

I’d just stop it in a bravo and call it a day. Not much more money, can rattle can it any pattern you want, Have lots of adjustments yet not need bedded. But that’s just me! Get what you like!

What aftermarket accessories are you talking about for the 700 but tikka accessories cost too much?

A larger selection of affordable stocks for starters. Replacement and aftermarket parts seem plentiful due to how many 700s are on the market compared to the Tikkas. Hell, I've only been researching things for the last couple nights so I may be wrong.

That said, I'm too old to argue and y'all have forgotten more than I'll likely ever know when it comes to these things. If I'm wrong about my observations then feel free to set me straight. Hell, I live to learn new things.

I'm just a redneck from the south that loves to eat what I shoot. I just want a nice looking and slightly unique 6.5 cm hunting rifle with a shorter (18") non suppressed barrel to hunt with out to 500 yards.

I know I can obtain this with a Tikka. It just seems to me that it may be cheaper to do so with a Rem 700.

Having both a tikka and a remington, i will not buy another Remington product. Simply put the tikka is on a way higher level of quality out of the box.

What kind of replacement parts do you need? Usually things that dont break, dont have much for replacement parts on the market.

I agree the Tikka is a better quality. Replacement products don't always stem from having failure though. They also come from people upgrading to custom products leaving a surplus of factory parts on the market, right?

I did find someone with a Bergara b-14 willing to trade. Would y'all consider it a step up from the Remington even though it's basically a clone?

A step up in some facets, sure.

But I like to change my own barrels without having to send the action out which precludes bergara with its coned bolt that eliminates remage prefit barrel compatibility so thats a deal breaker for me personally.

If you dont like the 300wsm t3 though then trade it out provided the bergara is in something you want to shoot. You can worry about new barrels later on down the road.



I dont hate remingtons though, this eurooptics rem barreled action in 6.5 creed like you are after in a bravo would be a fine rifle.
The stockys lrc stock is nice, you just need to figure out the bottom metal for it which is an additional cost. Which when factored in means the bravo gets you the same features with additional adjustability for the same money.

I’d attach my Tikka action to a 2x4 as a stock before swapping it with a R700.

I just really like the camouflage pattern on the Stocky's. I thought it was a drop in stock though for a BDL with a bottom plate.

It would be if you already have the bdl bottom metal, just the barreled action I linked doesn’t have bottom metal included though.

Seems it would be cheaper and easier to replace the bolt and rebarrel the Tikka. There are definitely buyers for a Tikka magnum bolt here. Replace the bolt and bolt stop and the barrels are shouldered so you can do at home.

I did. I ended up ordering a 700 SPS AAC with a bull barrel. I also ordered a stocky stocks lrc composite stock in strata camo. I did however end up keeping my 300wsm.
