Tikka T3 Hunter .308 aftermarket stocks

What are you using the rifle primarily for?

I've had B&C M40 and sporter stocks, and a GRS. Was happy with all three, however the M40 and GRS are pains in the arse for hunting guns and I now run my hunting rifle in a B&C sporter. They are all cheap and easy drop in options however. A mate is using a German Gun Stock Raptor which hes happy with except for the barrel channel being quite large and not matching up to the profile on his CTR, he's in the process of replacing it with an XLR Element. Another mate has his CTR in a KRG which he loves. All good options, just dependant on your primary use for the rifle.

The BC sporter is a great stock for the price point. another is the McMillan compact, it is 1 oz lighter than the OEM Tikka stock.

Tikka Utralite in a McMillan Compact

The sporter is good mate, I have it on a battue and have taken it for a few walks now, nice and easy into the shoulder and it doesn't catch on anything when my heavy arse is slipping down cliff faces (this is literally the reason why I got rid of the GRS). It's not heavy and grips well with or without gloves. This is a minute of deer gun so I'm not concerned about accuracy much less than 1 MOA, which it's achieving. If you're going to be using it for distances further than a few hundred meters I'd suggest bedding the action as my previous Tikka in the M40 was bedded and was shooting less than half MOA with factory ammunition (was a .308 T3 Varmint). Fuck I was stupid to sell that thing...

Haha! There's plenty of poisonous fauna to see mate, I don't know about making an effort to see a brown snake though, they're pretty aggressive.

I think on rare occasions they grow up to 10ft or so. There are a few different subspecies of browns here: king brown, and eastern and western browns. I've never seen a king or western brown in the wild. There are worse snakes here though, taipans are crazily aggressive and will fuck your day right up.

Ah yes the Taipans. Forgot about those.. smaller populations and more localized to certain areas, but almost guarantees you will die if you get bitten. Any way back to topic, I will do some searching on the sporter and report back what I find.

Thanks

AOG

Stocky's also just came out with some carbon fiber stocks for the T3 that look really interesting. I'd have probably chosen one of those over the B&C that I ended up with, had the option been available at the time.

Just out of curiosity mate, what projectiles are you using with that rifle?

I use this rifle for a specific area I hunt mule deer only. That being said, it get's shot a few times a year. In the beginning, I intended to just shoot some factory ammo to build some brass. On a recommendation from a friend, I tried The 140gr Fusion ammo. It shot under a half inch with ES under 10 fps. I bought all the store had in that lot. I probably won't be reloading for it for a while now!

Here's another vote for the McMillan Hunters Edge/Compact. Especially since you mention its a deer/elk rifle and you want to keep it as lightweight as possible. The Hunters Edge/Superlites make for a really nice overall rifle. This one is a 7MM-08.

My German Gun Stock is as about as nice as u can get for a tikka. love it.

Ah nice, and good velocity with that projectile?

I'm considering getting a 7-08 as my non-magnum 7mm, but am strongly tempted to take the current tikka and rebarrel/restock to a .280AI.

I reload with Nosler BT 140GR and somewhere around 46 Grains (don't have my load data on me) of Ramshot Big Game and get 2850 FPS out of my T3 Hunter in 7mm-08.
