Hiya Guys,

I am doing a bit of homework on load data before my new T3 Tactical arrives and I am a little concerned that the Berger VLD's don't appear to fit in the magazine.

What are the longest (If any) Berger VLD's to fit in the tacticals magazine.

Other than sitting the bullet .25" off the lands what other options are there???

Can the magazine be adjusted??? or can you recommend shorter but equally accurate bullet out to 600yds for a .223 Remington ???

Thanks Fellas

Re: Tikka T3 Tactical .223.

I would use the 77 SMK, Bergers VLDs need to be touching the lands or a hair away. Almost all calibers have the issue of mag length when it comes to VLDs. You wont really know until you get your rifle and you find out your seating length. You may be good or may not be. If not there are a plenty of mag length bullets out there for .223 like the 77 smk and the hornady 75. I use the 77 smk out to 1k.

You are 100% correct on that, I should of wrote that has been my experience with them.

Re: Tikka T3 Tactical .223.

You can modify the factory mag with a razor blade, super glue, drill and some time. I modified mine to allow up to 80gr but haven't used over 75gr so far. It works but it's not as nice as going with something more professional like the CDI bottom metal and AICS .223 mags.

Best thing is Midway-USA has Federal 77gr SMK Gold Metal Match ammo on sale this month for $200 a case.

The 77gr bullet was designed to win the 600 yard Rattle-Battle match at Camp Perry, which is a rapid fire 600 yard match and requires it to feed through a standard AR15 magazine.

LOL, I wonder how long it will last this time....

welcome back, for however long it will be.

Re: Tikka T3 Tactical .223.

It seemingly lasts forever and certainly is an Italian Influence...that Tikka would so successfully botch the obvious and so often.

That even before plastic rates a consideration,in the extrapolation.(grin)

Re: Tikka T3 Tactical .223.

I cut the rib at the back of my magazine and machined a delrin block to fill in some of the extra space. Factory mag was one of the 6 rounders in mine but it only feeds 4 well now because the follower tends to snag when it gets below the baseplate. I have enough room now to load 75 Amaxs and 80 SMKs as long as I want AND it still feeds standard .223 well. I have said it before and I'll say it again, TIKKA needs to make the magazines longer for the .223! Before I cut mine, the rib only allowed for exactly the same case over all length as in an AR mag.
