Tikka Tac 400modbb?

Hey all.

I only have like 400ish rounds through my tikka tac 308, I’m happy with it, but I feel it could be a little better, would swapping from my 20” factory barrel, to one of these in carbon and say 23” make a noticeable difference (if I do my part of course)?

the rifle would be doing PRS and target work, with the ability to be carried a bit, if I ever got a wild hair and wanted to hunt with it vs my other stuff, for some reason.

For a .308 you don't need the new barrel material. You'll probably never wear out the regular 416R version. For PRS and target work your best bet is a very heavy contour and long as you can stand barrel. For hunting it would be great as a carbon barrel. If you only can have one gun to do everything then I would go with a carbon barrel.

P.S. If you are swapping barrels you should also swap to a better cartridge. 6.5 Creedmoor is not a fad.

new/longer barrel?
new/different cartridge/caliber?
different projectile/chamber/twist performance?

Looking to get more accuracy out of it, better and longer distances, but still keeping the rifle nimble enough I could move it from stage to stage easily enough.

Pretty happy with the 308, think I’d do a separate 338, or if I was smart 6 dasher, build if I start wanting to push past 1k, right now it’s hard to find a range that goes much past what the 308 should be able to handle, it’s also nice to be able to shoot cheap M80 for inside of 300yrds.

...I should get into reloading, I know.

If you are going to rebarrel it do it with something better than 308.

Just pulled my CTR 24" 6.5 Creedmoor barreled action and sent it to Southern Precision Rifles (Bugholes) in TN. Going 18" Remington Varmint contour in 400modbb.
They offer the Bartlein Carbon wrapped version as well. Good guys. My second job from them.
