Join the contestI have also been thinking hard about a purchase. I shoot two Tikkas, Compact Model in 22-250, and a CTR .223. I am a Varmint hunter as you can tell. The Super Varmint looks to be a tack driver like most Tikkas, I would rather have the 20 inch barrel, just can’t find one and might end up with the 24. I have saw one at the range, but he was leaving and no chance to look it over. The 20in model is not imported, only the 24” is (technically the 23.7”).I have also been thinking hard about a purchase. I shoot two Tikkas, Compact Model in 22-250, and a CTR .223. Thanks for the info… I will look closer.. was there a 22-250, 20 inch barrel in the states?? I thought Buds had one, but could be wrong..The 20in model is not imported, only the 24” is (technically the 23.7”).
On Tikka’s gun finder, if the rifle's model name starts with JRT, it’s a USA model. If it starts with a TFT, it’s not a USA import.
Below, the 223 USA model 24” and under it is the non-USA 20”.

It looks like there is a 20” 22-250, but both US models seem to be 1:14 twist only. There is a 1:8 20” 22-250 that is not imported. Thanks for the info… I will look closer.. was there a 22-250, 20 inch barrel in the states?? I thought Buds had one, but could be wrong..
The Bravo is a nice chassis for sure. I own a W3 and I like KRG.If it fits the bill I doubt you can go wrong. I personally wouldn’t want a 24” barreled 223. You can get a T3X SS and have it cut and threaded and put it in a KRG and be money ahead.

But the stock on the Super Varmint is quite nice, and Is unlike their black stocks that I’ve fooled with. It’s light, stiff, and has options for attaching different width forends and different shaped grips. Plus it has a good cheek piece.
And the Super Varmint comes with a good two stage trigger.
So if you don’t want a Bravo or other chassis (or other stock) and you’re planning on upgrading the trigger on a CTR, it’d probably be cheaper to just have the Super Varmint cut down and threaded.
Thank for info guysIs it fiberglass or something non tupperware?
You can chop and thread a T3X SS and put it in a Bravo for quite a bit less. You can find the rifles under $800 from dealers, a KRG is $400 and a cut and thread is $125-$150. That’s $300 less than a supervarmint and the OEM stock and floor plate is worth over $100 too. The supervarmint is definitely not the cheaper route.
Out of stock…
get a 24”CTR…….if you can find oneThinking about buying a new Tikka super varmint rifle in the 223 what do you guys think are they worth the monies?
That’s sexy, go with this option
Here’s one in stock for $200 less than MAP.

A 20in 223 h-bar was imported years ago as the t-3 tactical. It has the .87 varmit barrel with m18x1 threading, and had the small ejector port and OG phosphate finish of the SAKO-TRG.
The super varmit is essentially the same rifle, with a 2 stage trigger and stainless action and barrel, which are all good upgrades. the SV stock is the same as the Tactical, but modernized to t3x, the vertical grip module of the CTR...also an upgrade.
The 20in stainless CTR in 223 comes into stock at Europtic like once a year and sells out pretty quick at $1200-ish. A Bravo with CTR magazine is available for $400-ish. So the T3x 20 in stainless in Bravo is around $1600 retail.
CTR option doesn't get the 2 stage trigger, cerakote, fluted bolt, and heavier profile barrel. The barrel is thinner around .79 vs .87 and it doesn't balance as well in a bravo.
A 223 x 20 in stainless CTR in the UPR stock would also be great, but it’s not offered !
backorder it
I agree with youI guess you don’t know how Tikka works. There’s people that have CTR 223’s backordered for over two years now and no telling when they’re going to make another run. The lite models are pretty much the only ones that could be out of stock, backordered, and you might see within a year.
If you want a supervarmint you’d better find one on a shelf because it’s a model that it’ll probably be a long damn time before they come around again because Tikka is stupid about this stuff.
I agree with you. I had my ctr back ordered a long time, and when it showed up at EURO OPTIC, I did not hesitate to purchase when I received their text. I purchased all three of my Tikka rifles from them and glad I got on the back order list . I like the Super Varmint, but just debating in my head do I need the long barrel,, I had better make up my mind …. Always enjoy your post.. Charlie112
With Eurooptic just backorder it, pay now and forget about it till it arrives. Its not Tikka that's stupid about this it's Beretta, that is the parent company /importer. Everything coming in has to ship, clear customs and then go through distributor channels. When you look at the tikka website there are models and trigger options that aren't available in the US. Why? because Beretta wont import them. So either find something in stock or place your order and wait.I guess you don’t know how Tikka works. Ok thanks good to know redneckThe supervarmint has the same two stage trigger as the Tac A1 which is an excellent trigger. Way nicer than the standard Tikka trigger.

I would say they are the same trigger, with one just being 2-stage. It depends on what you prefer. The supervarmint has the same two stage trigger as the Tac A1 which is an excellent trigger. Way nicer than the standard Tikka trigger.
