Hi, all. I was just reading another post this morning, & read that some on here are able to make hits @ extreme ranges in high winds. I'm wondering if you could give me some tips on calling wind beyond 1K when shooting by yourself. 99% of my shooting is solo, so I'd realy appreciate anything you could pass on. Thanks.

Thanks LL. I shoot as often as I can, but am self taught. I can see mirage, watch vegetation, etc. but the thing that really gets me is seeing wind changes once I'm behind the scope, & ready to fire. More the mid range than the wind @ the target. I can usually see that, & feel the wind where I am. I have to shoot in the mountains, & I have switching directions, updrafts, downdrafts, etc. that can change every few seconds sometimes. I was hoping that someone with more experience, & maybe professional training had some tricks they could share.

    Bigwheels,

You're in Wash. state, right? Not that far from MT.

You should contact Augustis about one of his LR shoots NW of Billings. Aug and Trgrman host a steel plate shoot in real world conditions from 100+ yds to as far as you can shoot. These two are as good at calling wind as I've seen, and you don't *have* to fire a shot to learn. Bring your tripod and spotting scope and watch as experienced wind callers go solutions. I learned a ton in two days. $45/day. Well worth the drive.
