Tipton cleaning rod issues

I recently purchased a Tipton 44" rod for a my new .270 from opticsplanet. The first one I received had an extremely slight bow in the rod. It was easily found by "rolling" the rod on a flat surface with the handle hanging off the edge so that the rod lies flat. The second rod received has the same problem, and I'm wondering if they just sent me the same one. I was told by battenfield that they should be perfectly straight, but was wondering what others have experienced. My concern is that with enough pressure that the rod would bow inside the barrel. I'm sure it would bow with enough pressure, but that much pressure may be more than what is normally required for cleaning a barrel. I'm new to all of this so, I'm not sure what normal is. Is this common? If so, is it just not an issue?

Re: Tipton cleaning rod issues

send it back and get a straight one. mine was straight, yours should be. dont pay return shipping either, have then send you a label. let them know if its not straight this time, they will keep paying postage til it is. or just get a refund and try another brand. but my tipton is straight as an arrow. you scared me and i had to go check, lol

Re: Tipton cleaning rod issues

Interesting. I just got off the phone with battenfield. They said an extremely slight bow is normal. I also found some in a bass pro shop with similar extremely slight bows. Can anyone else offer their experience with these tipton rods or rods in general?

Re: Tipton cleaning rod issues

I have 5 tipton rods, they're all I use. I just checked them and you can definitely find a small bow on the long ones (44"). But the short ones (26") have almost none. Like I said they're all I use and have been using for maybe 2 years. I've had no problems with them whatsoever. Much better than the coated rods IMO.

Re: Tipton cleaning rod issues

i own two and they both were reterned to tipton because the brass feruls were not on straight. they repaired them, sent them back with an apology letter and they were only slightly better. i soon after replaced them with bore tech and i am very happy. i will not buy another tipton cleaning rod.

Re: Tipton cleaning rod issues

Both of my Tiptons rusted around the metal parts above and below the handle. I always clean them after use and they're stored inside. My deweys don't have that problem.

Re: Tipton cleaning rod issues

One other thing, this isn't a big deal but for those looking to buy... the Deweys rod glides super smooth, it will keep turning and turning... the Tipton's aren't bad in that respect but definitely not as smooth as the Deweys. I do like the durability of the Tipton graphite rod however, I have scraped the plastic coated Deweys before (doing something I shouldn't have been).
