Night Vision TNVC Announces the WASP NV Clip-On Device

If I remember correctly, these were designed to compete with the PVS-22. Any plans to challenge the CNVD-LR performance and price?

They were intended to compete with the pvs-22 for 50-60% of the price. If that is in fact how they pan out one day it would be cool if someone could pull the same trick with the cnvd-lr...those things are pricey. That's putting the cart before the horse in this case.

Last night I got to put a PVS-14 behind a 5-25 S&B PMII and could clearly make out the 5, 1" bullseyes at 25x on the 400 yard target with an illuminator. Is a clip on such as the WASP really going to give you that much more clarity if you can only get it up to 12x-15x?

Yes a clip on will give you better clarity than a 14 behind a day optic. That being said, only the big boys (PVS 27, PVS 30, CNVD-LR) will handle the higher magnification day scopes above 10 power with real clarity. Even a PVS 22 is starting to loose sharpness above 8 power.

If you look at my picture on the previous page (post #234 of this thread), you will see where it is in front of an Eotech. When mounted in front of a glass optic, you will probably need about 8-10 slots of picatinny rail, past the objective, to get it on. I am using an 11" Troy rail on that rifle, and a 13" rail on my 6.8 20" AR.

Clip-Ons are difficult to collimate. I'd rather wait for a unit that is sub-MOA than have one that isn't...?

I think the secret problem is the collimation. That's the only thing I can think of that wouldn't be a quick fix.

First it was ready to go, then it was the Larue mounts, then it was shipping, then it was delayed for a month, then it was shipping again, then silence and "we'll let you know…"

Yup I've been patiently waiting since shot show 2013 for this one because of TNVCs reputation for quality and the price point but I'm now officially alarmed given that no mention was made of this unit at shot 2014.

How depressing that I'm actually considering ATN again. I'm considering that new PS 28 they rolled out to replace the 22 and 40s.
I'm just flat out not spending more than 5K for a clip on to blast hogs with so the BNS or PVS 22s are not options for me.

Come on Eric or Vic throw us a bone here.

What if Chevy announced and hyped a new model at the Detroit Car Show and then didn't deliver and went silent?

Then people with a need, and cash would by an available product, and have their needs met.

:/ The longer I wait for this it seems the more I'm willing to gamble on ATN's new PS-28. Unfortunately they seem to be the only ones in the low-cost clip-on market right now. Which is a huge bummer considering their reputation for everything outside of the THOR line.

I think this PVS 22 here will keep me happy for a while. Waited as long as I could. TIme will tell. If I had a company I know I would release something till it was ready for sure. NO need to send out stuff like this unless it was tried and tested. That would not be good for business.

I wish no ill-will on anyone, but Business Schools such as Harvard and Wharton have studied and modeled the effects of a product being late to market to death. The results are not good. I worked in the computer industry and I remember man instances where a product was going to be late to market, it was cancelled and they went on to the next generation.

This holds very true for many industries particularly computer/ other mass electronics when shit changes every 4-6 months with new models. In this case we still dont have another company that has a "WASP" competitor in their price range so they could be the exception.

Agreed but folks need a solution and the replacement does not have to be a direct competitor. They could decide to forgo the clipon route and go with a dedicated sight such as a D760, M845, or the new FLIR RS series.

I think by the time the people are ready to drop that kind of money they already know what they want. Frankly, the D760 has been available, if it would work for them they would have gotten it. Personally i dont want a dedicated site. I dont want to tie up my precision rifle with a dedicated system like the D760 so that wont work for me. Same goes for FLIR. Thermal and NV are completely different. And one does not replace another. Thermal is great for detection, but for ID id doesnt beat NV so if someone wants thermal they will get thermal. I guess we will wait and see. Obviously there is no question that TNVC at this point doesnt have 100.00% satisfaction because they have obviously pissed off some buyers. No one including Vic can deny that they have lost sales being more than a year behind. Who can argue that. But after talking to Vic at SHOT and him talking about how they are improving and finalizing the product, they will still have a hit on their hand. But only time will tell.

Like I said, folks need a solution, not a product. My solution was to pony up some more $$$ for a CNVD. I now have the capability I was looking for.

You dont have to tie up your weapon if your able to swap back and forth between 2 optics. I swap out my DMR and my 760 on my GAP with great results. Testing has shown the 760 to need to settle in sometimes before going back to a great zero. The badger mount for the DMR has always been perfect. Just gonna let yall know my experience.

Thank you and you are right that it can be swapped but the zero issue always becomes a question and also mag limited to 4 or 6x. With a clip on being able to keep your scope zeroed and not moved and then having higher mag capabilities is tits.

you guys are right about both. I have a 740 and the CNVD. The 740 works great with a bit of light and with IR. I do have a dedicated rifle for it as I just do not want to count on the zero being on if I have to move it around.

I have the CNCD that is moved around and it really works well. It is at its best with a 4 or 6 power. After that the resolution gets grainy. If you need more scope then get the CNVD=LR.

Clip on is the way to go IMHO. I do use thermal to locate and it works great for that.

Well, the wasp will be great when it is ready. The concept is great. The unit is nice and ergonomically works.

With the advances in thermal sights, I think it's going to be very competitive. I agree that a night vision clip on certainly has it's place, however that RS series from Flir will be tuff to beat being they are similar in price. It will be interesting to see the reviews on the Wasp once it's finished and out on the market.

I don't know if you've ever used a clip on before or not but the "high magnification" you speak of is not that high. I've had a pvs-22 and now have a CNVD-LR. On the hand select pinnacle pvs-22 which is obviously better for higher mag than the wasp, 12x is grainy but useable. 6-8x is crisp and clear with it, past that it starts falling on its face. Eric, you are out of line. Jumping all over a potential customer for no good reason doesn't exactly make me want to continue being a customer.

You have a lot of customers on my recommendation, so here's a recommendation for you:

1. Apologize for that childish outburst.

2. Be up front about the delay.

I'd love to keep recommending TNVC, but my recommendations only carry weight because they're carefully placed. We all screw up. What we do from there is what defines us.

Actually I will address this. A few on this thread have followed me personally and accused me of all sorts of things. A few have been shills found out later from affiliations from other companies and they were dealt with from what I've been told. But a few have not been and they continue to trash our good name which has been built on years of great CS calling me or TNVC this or that. All this from folks who never ordered, nor paid us a dime. Other dealers who have pre-ordered were given a choice to refund their monies and we have done that. A few WASP's have been delivered early on to a dealers, one of them folks you may know as Wild River Ranch, the best and premier hog hunting and guide service out there. In fact he was the first to order and just received another unit this week. We're slowly getting there.

The WASP could have been released awhile back but it was not 100% what I wanted it to be. I will NOT go into details, except to stay it will NOT be fully released until I believe it's ready for prime time. I would never offer gear that did not perform up to our standards. This is why we do not sell all that "other" NV products on the market.

Once again, the WASP will not fully release until I say it's ready for mass production and I will not field questions on this or that problems from the past. I can tell you it was more optimization to this point and I want this to be the best damn clip-on out there for the money. That is where it's at and thank you for the interests.

Okay guys, it looks like this train has derailed. This thread has gone bananas, and I accept responsibility for the last mishap.

First off, Surgeon_Shooter – I apologize for the remarks I made previously. I went back and read (what seems like the entire thread) and I saw that I took what you said out of context. I’m willing to admit, it was wrong of me. Nothing personal, no hard feelings.

Just so everyone knows, this was nothing that was forced upon me, it was my ultimate decision, after I had some time to reflect on the things I wrote. I can eat crow with the best of em’.

At this point, I think it’s apparent that most people know the WASP has been delayed. We have no official ETA on release, and I won’t speculate. Let’s move past that. I spent Sat. at WildRiverRanch.com: The Leading Wild River Ranch Site on the Net with the WASP.

Quick recap. Put it on my pof 18" P-416 in front of a primary arms 4-14 FFP

The unit works. We shot to 300 without illumination on a moonless night. Actually made a 1st round hit at 400 on a half ipsc painted white but really needed illum to see it and the 500 and 600.

Also shot it on the mp-22 to 300 in front of an eotech with primary arms 3x magnifier.

Shot a hog with it at around 100 yds with no illumination of course.

First impressions are very positive.

I'll post photos and video later.
