Changing times are tough. The military has always been an environment of experimentation, be it socially, technologically, medically, or weaponry related. It’s always been that way, for better or worse.
Personally I don’t give a shit if your a former dude who was a woman but was born a man but likes cats and dudes who identify as women but also identify as dudes who identify as a desk chair, as long as you want to serve, can run/jump/stomp/shoot/clear a room/follow orders/think outside of the box/and not fall asleep in a hide. If you can do that, then you’re someone I’d want on my team and would share a sleeping bag with you if it came to it (#BeenThereDoneThat #FuckTheCold).
Quality leadership, that isn’t fucking toxic and part of the many problems that plague the military, is what will help keep the machine running during the honeymoon periods of experimentation.
As for the other comment...
Committing war crimes is not the same as killing enemy combatants. Just going to leave that there. Pretty sure we didn’t execute detainees after finding US equipment or a fuck ton of bomb making materials in their homes, or when they smiled at us after an explosion shook the entire fucking house that happened to also leave nothing but part of a fucking frame of the humvee that was driving down the road.
The assholes that fuel the enemy’s propaganda machine by committing war crimes and stooping to the enemy’s level are just putting more friendly lives at risk. We must follow the rules and be disciplined enough to not let emotion drive our actions.
