I'm installing a base on my Ruger MarkIII, and nowhere can I find the recommended torque setting. Anyone know offhand? Also, loctite: red or blue? and why?
Thanks for the what's up.
Recommended torque specs vary depending on manufacturer, most will be 12-18 in/lb. Do you know which base (manufacturer) you've got? That info would be helpful.
The use of loc-tite isn't absolutely necessary on a quality base but it's often used 'just to be sure' the screws don't loosen up over time - especially if it's a heavy recoiling weapon.
I'd strongly recommend you avoid using the 'red' loc-tite. That stuff is usually for 'permanent' installations and you'll probably have a good chance of stripping or snapping a screw if you try to remove that base later. The 'blue' loc-tite is what you want to use and will work great.
thanx! it's a ruger base, MarkIII is minimum recoil ;-) am playing around with Browning's Holographic sight. Impressed so far, @ 22 yds. using the dot off a bag, it'll put 3 holes under a quarter.
