Toyota Recalls Two Trucks

Re: Toyota Recalls Two Trucks

Got a good one we have to fix. I am at a multi franchise and Subaru just gave us a stop sale for an issue for latch operation during window roll down. In laymen terms in some vehicles if you roll down the window at any speed from 0 up it will open your door. That would ruin your day huh?

Re: Toyota Recalls Two Trucks

Get in line. You should see the amount of recalls that go on in a typical years time between GM, Subaru, Honda, etc. etc.
Honda has a new one out a couple days ago with their Odysseys and soft brake pedal feel.
Most of these "fixes" they pay you on what a very skilled mechanic with air tools, parts already in your stall, on a clean low mileage car, without a metric ton of debris in the seats or bed, in a good work environment would take, minus about 10%. Take my word for it you don't break even and in some instances it is better to sit in your stall and wait for a good job to come in. They don't pay for your tools either. I have maybe $120K into tools to make my job easier but as more places go to throw away technicians with harbor freight tools I have to do the stuff no one else can or will do on top of training new monkeys.

Recalls generally aren't a bad thing though. It shows a sense of corporate self responsibility to take care of oversights before they turn in to problems. If only we had more corporations take responsibility for their product, and be proactive about fixing any potential issues. I respect a company that says "We fucked that up. I guess we need to fix it before we get into some really hot water."

Usually by the time it becomes a recall it is because they are already in hot water or suspended over the pot already.

Re: Toyota Recalls Two Trucks

Generally recalls are the result of something that should have been dealt with during the manufacturing process. Cheaper to fix the comebacks than to get it right the first time. No corporate responsibility at all in my book.

Re: Toyota Recalls Two Trucks

Also the manufacturers rely on the public to (test drive) there new designs and then defects in engineering and or component manufacture are (discovered) and then repaired. Don't think the designers of the Pinto wanted their car to burst into flames when a bicycle crashed into the back bumper. But yet again I don't think GM counted on model rockets being strapped to the side of a full size pickup with a full gas tank, T-boned at 80MPH either.

Re: Toyota Recalls Two Trucks

My Dodges have been problem free. Mostly... And for a whole fuck of a lot less money than Fords or Crevy's (That's right, I spelled it Crevy...Long story).

Somethings in life are unavoidable such as defects, time pressure, lying, ass covering and scapegoating.

The next best thing to perfection is forthrightness in rectifying a problem. I still have not heard a single credible person say Toyota withheld information about a dangerous condition. The only people saying so are among the above named unavoidables.

Re: Toyota Recalls Two Trucks

I had a recall for a part on my Subaru a couple of years back (something to do with something concerning combustion in my turbo), and my wife currently has a recall on her Subaru (though I have no idea what). Nothing in the news. But it was a problem found after being used in the real world with real drivers (some things simply cannot be tested for before production), and they stepped up and fixed it. I didn't even know there was a problem until I was notified by them.

Re: Toyota Recalls Two Trucks

The recall on yours was the oil tube fracturing. Basically there is a oil supply hose made out of steel that goes to the turbo. After some time and vibration the tube may crack and squirt oil on a hot turbo causing fire.
The campaign on your wifes is most likely the fuel tank check valve. Sucks to do. Have to pull out the fuel tank sending unit and remove a check valve and do a engine computer ECM update. When you take it in try to have the gas tank as empty as you can.
