Re: travel long distances with rifles in soft case ?

not sure how far you are going. My rifles routinely travel 250 miles home to the mountains and 250 miles back a couple of days later in soft cases. These are the padded cases with magazine pouches on the outside, cleaning rods, a spare part or two, etc. inside with the rifle. Mine are collectables, just shooters. No issues so far.

went to montana on a blitzkreig killing spree with four precision rifles in drag bags in the bed of my chevy. 1500+ miles in temps from 32f to -20f along the way. when i got there yanked em' out and went to work. no issues.....

Re: travel long distances with rifles in soft case

I wondered about this very thing, as I "keep" a rifle or two in my trunk in a soft case most of the time - should the opportunity to hit a new range occur. I was less concerned about the rifle, more about the scope. Sounds like road travel (in my case mostly paved) isn't too traumatic to my firearms.

Re: travel long distances with rifles in soft case

The rifle should be ok. Provided you have high quality bases, rings and scope etc, everything should be fine.

After all, these are the reasons we pay good money for top quality stuff.

Re: travel long distances with rifles in soft case

Traveling with your rifles in a QUALITY soft case or drag bag shouldn't hurt them one bit, including long distances and on somewhat rough roads. BUT with that said...and since you didn't specify what kind of soft case...I wouldn't put a $5k rifle, optics/etc. package in a $25 wal-mart special Chi-com case with limited padding, etc.

About the only times I run Pelican/Storm/Starlight cases with my rifles is when I have to relinquish them into the hands of airport TSA and baggage handling monkeys who handle everything with SUCH AMAZING care and concern for the contents!

its a 5.11 soft rifle case so it should be ok. the one in my drag bag that rifle get wear marks just from riding in it, but that has a rough life
