I know there are a other threads about trigger pull weight and trg in particular.

I just wanted to add my experience. On Monday I reduced my trigger pull 2nd stage weight to 16 oz. as measured by Timney trigger pull weight measurement tool. 1 stage left at 14 oz.

On Monday and today I had fired about 110 rounds total with no trigger problems. All shoots fired from bench or prone position.

I removed trigger and then removed set screw and small spring. Cleaned setscrew with a die and put back together using a little bit of blue medium strengh loctite. Painted a mark on the setscrew so I could tell if it moved. It had not.

Possibly the reason some people have trouble with the setcrew holding position they set it to is the factory loctite looses it's hold when the setcrew is moved. It then loosens from firing rifle due to shock. When it gets to loose trigger does not function.

hmmm I thought the lowest they could go was 2lbs. Can you be a little more specific on the adjustment you made? Maybe a picture?
Thanks!

Re: TRG-22 trigger pull 16oz

You can remove your trigger assembly as a unit with a 5mm allen wrench, it takes a matter of seconds to do this. Just unscrew 5mm hex head bolt. Directions in owner's manual, bolt out.

You will see the small 2.5mm hex head bolt that adj. the 2nd stage. It is pretty much hollow as it has a tiny spring that goes in it from the other side.

I cleaned the threads of the allen head screw with a 5mm x .9mm pitch die. When you put it back together start the tiny allen head screw by hand so you don't cross thread anything.

Put a very small amount of blue medium strengh loctite on end of hex head screw. Adjust and test before loctite dries.

It won't hold, you'll slowly start feeling a little "tic" right before the 2nd stage.

If you really slap the bolt forward hard with 10 rounds in a mag, the sear will release, also (don't worry, it won't go bang like a Remington). You'll reach up to pull the trigger and it will feel hard, just raise the bolt handle and recock, then it will be fine.

I have several, and about 2.5-3.0 pounds (depends on the gun)is the lowest they will reliably work for long.

I'll be on alert for the tic. What causes it?

I'll try that hopefully tomorrow or Thursday.

* 1st stage under 1.25-1.5 lbs. or a dirty/dry sear surface. Usually won't show up until after several hundred cycles (dry fire or shooting).

* It will usually only do it during a big match (R.O. for example) while under time constraints....that's why I keep mine at 2.5-3 lbs!

I have a 42 so maybe it's different than the 22 but you are describing the first stage adjustment. The second stage can be adjusted from below without taking out the trigger assembly.

My experience has been say out of 10 rifles half will go just over a pound the other 5 can't get under 2 before they lock up, luck of the draw.Trigger packs are same in the 22 & 42.

I hadn't heard that before. Thanks Mark!

Hey, anybody want to trade their 1lb TRG trigger for a 2lb TRG trigger?

Re: TRG-22 trigger pull 16oz

Photo of trigger unit below. Yelllow arrow points to 2.5mm head hex head screw for 2nd stage. It's easier to work on with unit removed. You can see the white paint I put on edge of screw so I can tell if it moves.

This is just a guess, but I wonder if a number of people loosen the setscrew and it subsequently gets looser because of the shock the rifle is subjected to. If you take it apart, clean it and put new loctite on it the screw should not come loose.

Re: TRG-22 trigger pull 16oz

Thanks Ronas! That does clear it up, we're talking about the same adjustment. I've always just left it in the gun. I'm going to try your loctite idea but I think I just have one of the 2lb triggers because it will lock up on me just during dry fire when I go to the very light side.

Re: TRG-22 trigger pull 16oz

I find these issues kinda funny, b/c my TRG is why I started shooting heavier (2#) triggers. I grew up shooting positional air and 22lr Anschutz, FWB, Walther, ect and benchrest 2oz jewells. So I always had to have a very light trigger and loved a light 2 stage. That all changed when I got my TRG. The first thing I did was go to reduce the second stage down to under 1# but the more I shot it (especially fast or positional unsupported) the heavier I adjusted it and found that I actually shot better. I started seeing less and less called fliers. I am now right around 2-2.5# and love it. I feel the reasion I can shoot it so heavy is b/c it breaks so clean, and I am use to a clean breaking trigger with the Anschutz and Jewells. Just my .02 on this subject.

Also well over 4k rounds and untold # of dry fireings with out one problem with my TRG trigger.
