Over the Christmas holiday I was lucky enough to get a couple of Triad's double mag pouches to replace the "had what worked grenade pouches" that I’ve been using for a while now. Since I haven't seen a lot on the double mag pouches I thought I'd show a few pictures and give a couple of my thoughts on them. Firstly I'd like to comment on the quality of the construction of these pouches, I’m not sure who is making them but they did an excellent job. It’s easily on the level of the Tactical Tailor, Specter Gear, and early Eagle Industries stuff that I have.

Not surprisingly this pouch perfectly holds two 5 round magazines and keeps them easily accessible. Sometimes magazine pouches have a bit of a breaking in period but I had no trouble just dropping the five rounders in the pouch. Something that I thought was interesting and good to know is that two 10 round Alpha Mags will also fit inside the pouch while still allowing the flap to close. Granted they sit a bit higher so the free running end on the male fastex buckle will be almost all the way out but it works.
I think if I was going to change one thing about the pouch, and something that I’ll rectify soon, is that the female end of the fastex buckle isn’t secured to the flap. This means that when both means of retention are used to keep the flap closed and the fastex buckle is released it just flops around and can’t aid in separating the Velcro to open the flap.
It’s a minor ding but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

Originally I wanted this pouch to use with my two 10rd Alpha Mags because I didn’t know about the Option #4 pouches, which I mention below. While it doesn’t work perfectly with the .308 Alpha Mags they can be coaxed in with a little effort, however the bottom of the magazine will be nearly level with the top of the pouch. This can be troublesome depending on how fast you’d like to access the mags but the problem can be mitigated by putting some foam in the bottom.
I also discovered that the pouch is great for carrying other stuff besides AICS magazines such as two 20 round AR-15 magazines, a Leica CRF1200, or three Federal 10rd ammo slips.

I ordered one of these as soon as I found out about them and kudos to Steve for such fast shipping given the holiday season. I ordered this pouch and another item Sunday evening and had them in hand by lunch time yesterday. Like the other pouches this one is equally well made and fit the two .308 Alpha Mags with very little fuss. It’s nice to see a magazine pouch specifically designed for these magazines finally on the market so guys don’t have to just make do anymore. Prior to getting this pouch I used everything from surplus hand grenade pouches to Tactical Tailor Small Utility pouches and while they worked I just knew there had to be something better…well I found it.
I highly recommend these pouches if you are looking well made gear that won't break the bank and don't want to compromise by using a pouch made for something else.
