I first started using DA for my field target solutions last year. I used JBM to generate DA data for my different rifles after reading about using DA as the main component of ballistic prediction here on the Hide. The DA solutions make for very accurate dope for varying conditions and locations and I hunt from sea level to around 4000' so I found them to be very useful. The problem was that I was not the best with neatly generating my DA data from JBM into nice field usable system....it worked well but was cumbersome. About that time the FDAC cards from ACTS showed up here on the Hide and it was real close to what I was looking for in a finished product. They have since done a lot to allow the shooter to reference their bullets and velocity with their cards but initially the product was only for a limited number of calibers and bullets that did not match what I was shooting. From what I read and see it is an excellent product but not specific enough for some of my load combinations. That led me to look for the same type of finished product specifically matched to my loads. I found that several weeks ago in a product called the Whiz Wheel put out by Accuracy 1st. It is based on the same ballistic formulas (point mass based with Litz G7 BC's) used in several ballistic solvers like the Shooter program for Droid and gives you a very complete solution in one handheld solver. It provides dope for elevation, windage (with solutions grouped by clock face direction of wind), movers, and spin drift. It also has a temp/altitude DA converter if you dont use a Kestrel type device and a slope dope table for angles. You use the wheel to reference your DA with your range to get the solutions. It is tunable for muzzle velocity of + or - 50 fps so you can tweak it for temp based on your zeroing temperature in addition to being tunable for bullet BC. They make some standard wheels but the best part for me is that if you provide them with you barometric and zero data the wheel they provide will be specifically made for your caliber and bullet. I have had 2 made so far and just got done testing the second this weekend. I checked them with some of my recorded field data and found the provided solutions have an accuracy of .1 mils with the known data I have recorded. I took just my Kestrel and the Whiz Wheel and shot several different distances from 500-800 yards on different days with DA numbers ranging from -100 to 1700'. It has proven to be very accrate and very fast to use in the field. If you are looking for a DA solver custom matched to your load and caliber you need to give them a look. They make a nice product and were great guys to work with in my experience.

Re: Tried a new DA solver system

ggmanning, thanks for the review! Sounds like a great little system, I think I'll be ordering a couple of these to try out this week. Out of curiosity, how long did it take to get your custom wheels done & shipped to you?

Re: Tried a new DA solver system

I had them very quick.....not more than a couple of weeks from order to in my hand. If you want to go the custom route email them and they will tell you what they need. Bullet and rifle twist/caliber and MV plus barometrics at the time of your zero (DA, Humidity, station pressure, temp). You can choose moa, mils and yards, meters in the combination you want.

The FDAC will be available in a completely customizable format in the next few weeks here.

You will not find a more accurate, simple, clean, and uncomplicated, system in existence. The FDAC provides you with ALL of your firing solutions from your minimum to your maximum range at one time, no spinning anything around and calculating one firing solution at a time.

The Whiz Wheel is an incredibly interesting design, but it (in my opinion) lacks the simplicity and practicality needed for use by shooters across the entire gamut of experience and knowledge levels. Our product is brutally simple and was designed completely by actual combat experienced snipers who know what it takes to train, lead, and mentor snipers of all experience levels.

To provide due credit to the folks involved with the Whiz Wheel: The involved individuals have developed an accurate product and have personally contributed greatly to the success of a wide range of snipers involved in killing Our Nation's enemies through their training and advocacy efforts.

That is great news for shooters. The only thing that kept me searching when the FDAC was introduced here was that lack of being able to customize it to my loads. While I am very happy with the Whiz Wheel I know the FDACards are also a great product. Choices are good and they are both good choices.

Both are pretty interesting. I will be curious about the new options available for the FDAC since I just bought one.

I have thought about "merging" a Mil-Dot master and something like these by making the Mil reading the range input...

    Excellent!

Will it be possible to order one that is completely metric?

Pressure in Millibars (Hekto pascals), meters above sea level, DA in meters, distance in meters, Celcius, V0 in meters per second and an all metric Density Altitude Estimation Table.

Re: Tried a new DA solver system

ggarrett, I have talked to these guys and they told me they would be able to get a custom wheel out in a day or two. From what they told me it is quite a process to make a custom wheel and is all done and verified in house. The FDAC looks like a good product but I like the idea of customizing to my rifle and ammo, cause that is what it is about, me. They are even selling 50 caliber wheels since they can customize to anything. FDAC will be having one soon from what I've seen on the Hide so should be great for shooters choice. I think these are two goods systems to make us all beter shooters.
