This is not the most appropriate forum for this, but I've always received better gunsmithing advice here than anywhere else. I have an AK with an aftermarket trigger that while smooth, isn't what my precision guns have. Following the "fuck it, it's an AK" mentality, I thought I might throw the hammer and trigger in the vice and polish the hook and travel area with a brass wire brush in a dremel tool, and maybe even the steel wire brush to see if that smooths things out any. Any thoughts? Think it will work or destroy the trigger?

Measure twice cut once.
Just be careful.
FWIW, Dremmel has a 320/400 grit sand/polishing wheel that fits on their EZ install mandrel.
I use it on triggers but very carefully and gently.
I also have used a cotton swab with Flitz in the Dremmel in certain tight areas.
Never done anything on an AK but on several firearms.
I don't think the brass will do much as it is much softer than steel.

wow!! 320/400 grit?? I would think nothing more coarse than 600 and possibly finer than that!!
I am always reluctant to use power tools on my triggers. I figure if I use a power tool and remove too much, nothing good can come from it. If I use a hand stone and remove to little, I can always go back and hit it again!!

It'll take about 2.237 years to polish on the trigger long enough to hurt it. (just
kidding of coarse) Ak's have a tremendous amount of sear engagement, if you
don't change the angles you will never hurt it. Try and use a fine trigger stone or
1000 - 3000 grit paper on a small piece of steel to keep things flat. Then buff it
if you want. I tigged mine
up and recut it to a 2 stage. Some body is selling them now I think.

AKs trigger parts are often cast and not machined or if it was a file was used.Remove the bumps don't change the angles a stone with oil should work a trigger job can be done but best left to a pro.A good single or double hook ak can have a great trigger its just rough holding the parts between your toes the way the Afghani's do. Red Star makes a adjustable sear trigger kit that should drop right in also.
