I am new to the suppressor game. I have done some research, and think a trust is the way to go for me. Have been considering doing the Apple route where they partner with a local firm in your state as I do not know of anyone that specializes in NFA trusts here. My questions:

    1) Does my trust have to be filed with ATF? From comments I have seen on here, it sounds like it does.

    2) If it does need to be filed, I am assuming this needs to be complete before I can start the process on my first can. Is this correct? Or can the two run concurrently? Average approval time for trusts?

I searched the ATF website and couldn't find anything on this, although it may be there and I am not searching for the correct wording.

    Casey,

You should send the trust paperwork including the Schedule A, with the Form 4 application to the ATF.

I chose to get the trust in place first and then pay for the cans from the trust checking account. There is debate on whether or not this is needed, but I saw it as the least chance of having questions raised later on. My opinion only.

There are several threads here on the trust process and also the steps to take when submitting form 4's. The "search" function is your friend.

Get an actual lawyer who is versed in firearms laws - specifically NFA - and have it created for your state of residence.

Send a copy of your notarized trust along with your Form 4. Be sure to include the Schedule A (I recommend not sending them a blank Schedule A)....put something in the trust of value - I have 10 dollars and a Mossberg shotty.

The trust checking account is not an absolute necessity...I pay in cash or money order for my suppressors and I pay by money order for the NFA tax.

I have heard of people "contributing" funds to their trust....essentially, they just documented in the trust that trustee whoever donated X dollars to the NFA trust for the purchase of this item and it shall be property of the trust upon payment in full and ATF approval....however, I've not personally done this...

Read the first line of the OP's post. He wants to have Apple Law Firm draft his trust in which they team up with a local (to the customer) lawyer to draft the appropriate NFA trust.
The process is simple, do not let it intimidate you. Follow the directions on the Form 4 and find a competent C3 dealer to guide you the rest of the way.

    Thanks KYS...

FYI though, I was speaking generally - I did read the first sentence that the OP wrote; I'm not familiar with "doing the Apple route where they partner with a local firm in your state".....so, I did not pretend to be.

I still stand by what I said - get an actual lawyer, not someone at NFAtrusts.com or Quicken auto generated trusts....if the OP has an actual attorney at Apple Law Firm...then good on him/her.

Thanks for responses guys. Planning on the lawyer route and found a good local dealer. I was just trying to get an idea of what I was doing - I appreciate the info.
