Trying to locate some175 milsurp bullets

Re: Trying to locate some175 milsurp bullets

The bullet was actuallly 173gr in weight, they are around but hard to find. Jeff Bartlet has them from time to time.

Re: Trying to locate some175 milsurp bullets

They were called 173, but most I weighed ran 174.

FMJBT has its limits, according to NRA testing about .75 MOA out of a bolt gun with quality reloads and no brass prep, USGI brass.

I trades some info and advice for some a year or three ago. I'll look the guy up and PM to see whether he has any left.

Too bad it's not like placing private investments. A 10% "finder's fee" would be nice, even though my rifle gets 2 MOA even with those sorted by weight. Gas gun, only a 1 MOA barrel anyway...

Re: Trying to locate some175 milsurp bullets

Lot of old Guard Shooters have been setting on the 173s from the days we made Mexican match out of M118s before we started getting M852s.

I have a few thousand I was trying to figure what to do with until I got into CMP-GSM Vintage Military Rifle Games, They are perfect for loading '06 for Garands, 1903s, and 1917s for those of us who don't want to shoot the CMP surplus stuff.

I remember when, then the DCM use to sell them to high power shooters at a very good price.

Glad you found some, I hate to feel guilty for not sharing.

Re: Trying to locate some175 milsurp bullets

I never put any marks on the bullets by pulling them. It doesn't take that much effort. No need to crank down the collet.

Any way the only problem I've had with pulled bullets is getting the black tar crap off them. All you have to do is soak the bullets in accidtone and rince them off, let dry and they are good to go.

They shoot good really. Makes for some good practice ammo in my Heavy Match M1A and make excellent loads for '06 in CMS-GSM games. They are more then capale of staying in the 10-X ring..............except in the offhand postition. They groups tend to open up a bit when I'm standing on my hind legs.......of course we know its the bullet's fault
