Hi All,

Just wanted to put in a good word for this product. I have a standard 20" AR with a rifle-length gas system and it works flawlessly. A few months back, I added a suppressor and adjustable gas block. The reasoning was the adjustable gas block could be used to tune the amount of gas and moderate the suppressor-induced over-gassing. That's the theory and the practice is the adjustable gas block did not add any value. It was either over-gassed or under-gassed, I could never find the sweet spot. Enter the Tubb CWS. This thing works as advertised. It delays the bolt unlocking by a fraction of a second and that makes all the difference in the world. Brass now comes out without the heavy layer of soot AND the bolt catch works 100% now. The over-gassing was causing the bolt to fail to lock back about one time in 10 and now that has been eliminated. Good product for 50 bucks.

While your experience with product may be positive, adding a part to the operating system of your rifle is a bad idea. David Tubb has an incredible shooting resume but one title he doesn't have is engineer. He couldn't prove the CWS delays the recoil phase of an AR-15 on a bet.

The most glaring problem created by a heavier bolt group is bolt bounce. Buffers are designed with a specific mass of weights and stack height of the weights to counteract bolt bounce. Increasing the weight of the bolt without considering ALL of the operating system variables is asking for an ass kicking by the law of unintended consequences.

Always know what you don't know...

So what would you say about the Young MFG. N/M bolt carriers that are heavier by design? Or the semi-auto carriers that weigh less than the full-auto carriers? Then there are four different weight carbine buffers plus the rifle length buffer and the Enidine buffer. I guess where do you draw the line in the sand? Based on your statement you should only run a full auto carrier with a rifle length buffer, since that was the original design that the weight was setup for.

Nope. CWS is good and it works to do what it what designed to do. Glenn Zediker tested and reported on it. One might refer to that for more information.

If your gun is overgassed, the first thing I would do is add a heavier buffer.

If the 160 gram H3 buffer is not enough (it should be), then use the Endine AR-10 buffer in your AR-15.

By the way, some H3 buffers are not the real 160 grams due to using lower grade tungsten. If I encounter these I return them.

follow up report. Ran 140 rounds through it in an F-class match. Brass comes out way cleaner and the bolt locked back every single time (i.e. 140 times) without error. Before adding the CWS, the brass came out very sooty and the bolt would fail to lock back about 1 time in 10 (over-gassed).

Bottom line: CWS is a bargain at $50

Bolt bounce caused by greater mass? Bolt bounce is caused by not enough mass for the amount of pressure operating the system. The carrier weights are designed to increase lock time allowing the bullet to escape before the moving mass acts upon the rifle at rest. Bolt bounce will never be increased by adding mass to the components the gas pressure is acting on. That makes no sense. In a perfect system, the gun would operate with the buffer never fully compressing the buffer spring. That's what the weights are trying to acheive.

boltripper says......the Tubb flat chrome silicate buffer springs are the schnitz too.....

the wound piano wire buffer springs lose their power very quickly and ....really , are junk after so much usage, don't believe me ...the brass scatters all over the place,

install the tubb flat chrome silicate buffer spring and you got a neat pile at about 2 or 3 o'clock on the deck.....this spring also will lose about a reported 11* of its power ,but then take a set and remain......Boltripper give this item a two thumbs up!

I run the CS spring and steel weight on my service rifle. The recoil impulse is smooth and consistent and it's gentle on my labor intense prepped brass. No dents in my cases.

Been using Mr Tubb's CS springs and his CWS for over 10 years, and they have proven to be a very good addition to my rifle system.

The laws of physics will help in determining when the carrier will begin it's rearward motion, not our wild ass guess's. "An object at rest will tend to stay at rest..." Now if my lips and my typing fingers could be as well trained.

Re: Tubb Carrier Weight System (CWS).....works great

I got one for my infantry weight barreled AR10 carbine. The rifle cycled & recoiled smoother and brass looked better with the hotter loads. Got the Tubbs flat wire spring and was able to take off PRI quiet control muzzlebrake, as it is no longer needed. I can't see how these products can be a bad thing.
I have never injured myself using this product.

Yessir. Nice tubegun as well.

Wow, so no title means no ability?

Think again, Tubb spends everyday in his lab. Its called his range, working with different types of things to get most of his equipment for his use, so why no title of engineer he should be consdered a scientist. Thats how he wins so often

The CWS and springs just plain work.
