Twist for 16.5" .308

Hey, folks. Getting my stuff together for a .308 build and wanting it SHORT. I like shooting the 155s, 168sand 175s. Should I go with the 1/11 or 1/10?

1:10 Twist just because you listed the 175gr. 1:11 twist will have a tough time spinning 175gr in such a short barrel.

I might even go with an 8 twist in something so short, but for sure 10 twist.

I have an 8 twist and it will shoot 168's just as good as it does 247's. I didn't build it based on any scientific evidence, I just built it because I had the blank, but I would do it again because while it shoots lighter bullets good, it also stabilizes heavy subsonics for when I want it to sound like a mouse fart.

+1 on 1:8...just ordered one for my shorty 308...

From what I understand, it doesn't negatively affect the lighter bullets, and you can shoot the heavies as well...

I know the Ruger gunsite scout is 1:10, seems to shoot good

Still waiting on the chassis but my DTA 16" 308 Conversion is a 1:8 Twist. Supposedly it shoots 175/178's really well.

1 in 10" twist is what I went with for my 16.5" 308win and it stabilizes the 175grs well.

The 1:8 is great in shorties, but mostly because it allows you to shoot the heavier bullets for subsonic loads. Moving from a 24" 1:12 to a 16" 1:8 I found that pretty much all of my pet loads for the 150 and 155gr bullets were now out of the picture, 168s were questionable but 175 and 185s sing.
