Two Men Use Girl As Human Shield — Until Her Father Guns Them Down

Here is a more complete report:
ST. LOUIS • A husband and wife armed with guns were able to stave off an apparent home invasion Monday night, police said.
One man was killed and a second taken to a hospital in the incident, which happened about 11 p.m. in the 4600 block of Newport Avenue.
Police say a 17-year-old girl who lived at the home was outside retrieving something from her car when she was approached by two masked and armed men who forced her into her house, using her as a shield.
The teen’s father, 34, saw the men walking up with his daughter, got his firearm and fired several shots at them, striking both of the men as they entered his home. The teen’s mother, 34, also retrieved a gun and fired once at the men but did not hit either, police said.
One of the men, Terrell Johnson, 31, of the 4500 block of Natural Bridge Road, collapsed on the living room floor and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second man, Cortez McClinton, 33, was standing behind Johnson when Johnson was shot. McClinton pointed a gun inside the doorway and also was shot. McClinton then ran away and got his brother to transport him to a hospital, police said. He was treated for gunshot wounds to the chest and both thighs.
McClinton, of the 3100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, was charged with second-degree murder (also called felony murder), kidnapping, burglary and armed criminal action. McClinton’s cash bail was set at $1 million.
In May 2010, McClinton was charged with fatally shooting Bryan Reed, 28, the previous month. Reed was sitting with a friend in a car April 24 in the 3700 block of Minnesota Avenue about 12:40 a.m. when a gunman approached and shot Reed several times.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office dropped murder and armed criminal action charges against McClinton in Reed’s killing because of a lack of witness cooperation, said Susan Ryan, a spokeswoman for the office. McClinton was released from jail in January 2013 after nearly three years behind bars awaiting trial on the murder case and other unrelated charges that were ultimately dropped.
McClinton has convictions in Missouri of drug possession and distribution and vehicle tampering.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
No one answered the door at the home Tuesday, but broken glass and bullet holes marked the storm door where shots were fired.

I love the armchair quarterbacking. We don't know what she was shooting, how far the target was or anything else. The Devil is in the detail's gents. Sounds like Dad handled himself extremely well, good on him. Yet another instance where standing and fighting actually increased survival chances vs submitting and hoping they didn't hurt him and his family.
Clearly you do not understand the satire that was intended by those of use who made comments about a surviving perpetrator and missed shot by his wife.
Though I do not know everyones feeling on this forum other than mine, I am guessing that most people feel the same way I do and that is, good on that whole family. It took a lot of self control to look and then react to the shitty situation that unfolded. It is a shame that the wife missed, and though I would have preferred she split that perpetrators head into a canoe, the fact that she did take action without causing collateral damage to innocent people says a lot about her and that family. Additionally I wish that the father could have left no surviving bad guys, but he still ended the situation and saved his family. Good on him. The fact that this situation had a positive outcome by letting the good guys win and the bad guys fail allows us to make jokes and comments that are satire heavy.
My bad, I did not pick up on the satire and have seen plenty of threads like this that were in all seriousness. Carry on gents!
If you want to hear satire, wait for the defense attorney's version of events that will show the "innocent" client had no intention of doing any harm to the family.
As a side note, goes to show that you should not just have a shotgun for home defense as the pattern may have hit the daughter

The father hit #2, McClinton, in the chest, and twice in the legs. Probably McClinton turned and ran as soon as the father started shooting. Perhaps the father just needed a more powerful round. But the mother, she completely missed!
Yes, I have not seen this on the major news organizations. Too bad the family did not have a surveillance camera system.

I'm not so sure that everything being said here is being said in jest. I'm sure you were being sarcastic and making light of the positive outcome but I'm sure some of the other comments were said in all seriousness. Lotta gunfight experts on here. Some even rank globally lol.
What is interesting is this said by the father;
"The bullets didn’t just hit the two men. Another one went all the way across the street, into the home of Jessica Swartz."
This gives a little food for thought when someone picks out a firearm, caliber, and ammo. I personally have never been a fan of the "bigger is better" thought, partially for this reason.

I guess he is thinking that it might be better if He attempted to defuse any anger the perp's family might feel toward Him. Given that His daughter could be a target of that anger that would not seem that stupid. Or perhaps, having just seen His own daughters life threatened, He felt some empathy toward those who just lost a family member. Either way it does not sound stupid to me.
