under what conditions do scope bubble levels fail? and how do they fail?
 
Well, since they're usually filled with an alcohol mixture to specifically cope with sub-freezing temps; I'm going to say that they would probably fail at just about the same moment as the shooter was entering terminal hypothermia.

200 degrees Fahrenheit? Maybe...

I think I've read that sometimes the bubble can split under recoil? I think that would constitute a failure if it does indeed occur.
 
I’ve had a flat line on my rifle for years I’ve shot from -10 to +110degs and it’s still going
