Re: Understanding Suppressor Basics #1
Thank you for posting that.
That is consistent with my limited experiments to get BB gun sound with powerful firearms, without a suppressor.
I started out 14 years ago trying to understand why a 22" barrel 22LR shooting CB Longs had a loud BLAM while a 24" barrel had three smaller sounds; firing pin, muzzle blast, and bullet striking the target.
Randy Ketchum of Lynnwood Guns suggested it was the threshold of supersonic gas.
Someone on rec.crafts.meatalworking calculated for me that it was 1 atmosphere above ambient.
Someone on rec.guns [T Alan I think] calculated for me the amplitude of the SPL re ubar.
I have bought and made metrogun barrels for 12 ga shotgun but did not get BB gun quiet.
This year I used my lathe and current understanding to make a 45/70 sound like a BB gun but push a 155 gr bullet at 400 fps, making body shots lethal on large domestic pests.
I just got an email from T Alan. He said I should read this:
