UPS Store RANT

I go down with one USMC Return stock and certificate to ship today.

UPS Store manager - a woman - says "We can't ship that, it's a gun part".

I said "Lady this could be a fiberglass fishing pole, it's just fibreglass.

Well since we're independently owned we make the rules of what we ship.

So I asked for the owner to confirm, I made it quite clear it's legal to ship.

I'll be calling the owner on Monday, I'm tired of these liberal whiney assholes that pick andchoose what they will ship.

Has the whole goddamned country gone soft or something?

There used to be a day where they'd be "Hey let me have a look at that, that's sharp".

Everyone that hates guns has raised their kids WITHOUT GUNS and "MOST" people I meet have never shot and hate guns.

Yet a few of them, after learning to shoot, wonder why they missed out on the best part of their lives.

So Rant off, I'm seeing red.

Re: UPS Store RANT

Never go to the UPS stores. I quit going to them long ago. There customer service sucks. I go to the local UPS actual shipping facility. They do not even care for the UPS stores there. They said do not waste your time going to them.

Re: UPS Store RANT

Why go anywhere?

UPS online shipper account - Free
UPS Shipping Boxes & Supplies - Free
UPS on-demand pickup service - Cheaper than driving anywhere
Shipping what you want, when you want, how you want - PRICELESS

Re: UPS Store RANT

Yep, technically the UPS Stores are not suppose to ship any gun parts, even stocks and scopes, they are suppose to go through the HUB. My buddy owns one, and anytime I ship through him he has to put a clever description for it. Scopes are telescopes, not a lie technically, stocks are fiberglass parts, and the what not. Its bullshit, but its their rules.

Re: UPS Store RANT

I shipped a rifle this past week with Fedex. I had already gone to the local UPS Store and discovered the same problem as above. I then went to the closest UPS hub and was told that they would need the FFL for both the shipper(myself in this case) and the reciever in additioon to inspecting the item. I wasn't planning on providing a FFL on my end so I was like ;), SOL. Fedex was no problem. UPS sucks.

Re: UPS Store RANT

My dad said he's shipped through them, just doesn't tell them.

My problem was I needed a box and was hoping they would p ackage it.

I'll go back tomorrow with "Fibreglass parts" and ship the damn thing.

Does the post office have a length limit?

This is a 36" long box..

Re: UPS Store RANT

ups will ship up to 6' long , here in wa. but i wouldnt have them package anything for you . ive had several bad experiences with ups . i prefer usps or fedex . as i live on an island filled with treehugging greenies , i like to have a smart ass response ready when shipping something that looks like it might be a gun . someone always asks ...

You'll be fine.

Re: UPS Store RANT

When did UPS start thinking they were the USPS??? Legally you don't need an FFL to ship anything to an FFL via common carrier. I used to ship guns at a UPS customer center all the time before moving to Austin (in July).

If you have a problem with the rules, you should probably take that issue up with Lowlight. He's the whiner who makes them.

You don't need any kind of license to mail a long gun, either.

Tucker, what does Rule 6 have to do with this post? What am I missing?

Re: UPS Store RANT

I made a post on here referring to some girl in my class who was all against me having guns (in response to the original post about people hating guns cuz they weren't raised around them) and I made a simple comment about a certain Govt. official to which he didnt like and he reported my post and now its gone. The whole point of the post had nothing to do with that figure, I just dropped the name and someone got their panties in a wad. hence, keep drinking the koolade

I plan to call the owner and let him know that as well, and then tell him I'm driving the extra 14 miles to the UPS hub - F him and I will never do bu siness there ever again.

Then again, will the post office take a 36" long box???

Re: UPS Store RANT

Yes, the USPS will take a 36" parcel. I've shipped fishing rods in 6' tubes via USPS before. Just a little free advice - insure it or you will have little or no recourse with the USPS if it is lost/stolen/damaged - they will even tell you that you are SOL.

Don't trust the UPS hub either. I have to carry a copy of the UPS policy with me every time I try to ship with them because the local hub has a couple of fucktard women (who are related by marriage) working in it. I had to ship an AR a while back and was told I couldn't ship a "machine gun" and asked why I had it because it was illegal??? I ended up with a supervisor helping me that day and wasted 2 hours of my time. Next experience was same hub, different woman. I was shipping a bolt action rifle and she started giving me hell about it so I whipped out the corporate policy and referenced the other employee's lack of intelligence. That was when I was informed it was the current one's daughter in law. That was the last time I shipped anything UPS.

Not directed at you, WD.
Someone else made a political post. It has since been removed.

The deletion of that post moved my reference to Rule #6 just below your post.

You should learn from your experience.

Apologies to AL and others for the distraction.

Re: UPS Store RANT

Usps guns yes
ammo ...no
ups is king for ammo shipments. You just need to print ORMD labels off the net that say small cartridges. After tha no problem. It took me three trips and three days but now it is not a problem.

Re: UPS Store RANT

Many moons back, when I was playing gunsmith, we had a couple of UPS drivers bring in a Beretta that they had "borrowed". It was being shipped to a gun store.
They shot the thing, and one of the rounds somehow fired out of battery. Blew the grips off in toothpicks.
Needless to say, they were most scared of losing their jobs..
After we told them that it would take a week to get a new set of grips, they were even more scared.
I have learned since that this is not an unusual case for carriers.

Re: UPS Store RANT

The reason that a UPS store doesnt want to deal with anything firearms is that they dont have the propper effective ways of securing it. I believe that the individual stores are responsible for insurng packages .......

Re: UPS Store RANT

I use USPS for anything that's not a regular firearm. Make your own box, weight it, input the data into the USPS website(make an account) then input the data for a 'pick up request' and they will pick it up on the day you request. Simple. Easy.

UPS Stores well, they suck major ass. I have always looked for the regular UPS shop/Hub in town if I get return labels for stuff, or in most cases, wait for the daily UPS truck to drive by and hand it off. They are usually in the neighborhood at the same time every day or so.

Re: UPS Store RANT

Well I shipped it through USPS but the UPS store WILL be shipping things in the fut ure, just won't tell them what it is.

I have to ship two VERY VERY sharp sword blades, definitely a UPS item there...

Re: UPS Store RANT

When I shipped out a heavy, well packed, high dollar rifle over $5k in value I wanted to find out what Fedex Ground's inspection requirements were for insured items. The woman on the phone at the main Fedex number of course told me I could not ship a gun via them. So I said fine, it is not a gun, it is a $7,000 heavy and large tool I am shipping - what are your inspection requirements on a heavy large tool insured for $7000?

They do not inspect packages until the insured value exceeds $25,000 is the answer. Out it went via Fedex Ground, totally legal.

The "store" is a retail license to steal. Avoid them.

Yep, the on line methods Tucker mentioned are the way to go, whether you drop off or have picked up. If you want to pick just one, pick Fedex. You can do Fedex Ground and Fedex Home Delivery on line with the same account. The Kinko's stores are convenient for drop off as well. Print your label at home, put it on the package, drop it on the Kinko's scale, and generally you'll have an email on your phone stating it was logged in before you even get home. You set the notifications up as well so that the receiver gets shipped, delivered, and exception notifications.
