Used Copiers Hold Thousands of Secrets

Re: Used Copiers Hold Thousands of Secrets

and this is why a copier that has copied something classified becomes classified material..and same for printers, scanners, etc.

Great, more to worry about...

The lack of intelligence in today's age is astonishing.

Re: Used Copiers Hold Thousands of Secrets

So where does one by a used commercial copier for $300? I priced them out at about 5-10K, depending on model.

Re: Used Copiers Hold Thousands of Secrets

Tucker, this actually isn't new. Its been common knowledge in the security community now for almost a decade. Companies (or Agencies!) with lax disposal policies of ANY kind of electronic equipment in modern times are just asking for liability.

Re: Used Copiers Hold Thousands of Secrets

Yup, saw that vid the other day, made me feel good about never using a copier other than mine.

Re: Used Copiers Hold Thousands of Secrets

I am just curious as to how my military/personal information was found on a compramised drive in Ft. Hood in a Corps of Engineers property issue. Having been through ID theft by a no account illegal alien years back I would really hate to go through all of that again considering modern technology. My name was listed in a large group of names that were compramised in a recent issue.

Unfortunately, it's not just a matter of what's under your own control.
For example, if you applied for a car loan or a home loan, copies were probably made.
If your mortgage company sold your mortgage to another company, copies were most likely made on a high volume machine like the ones in the story.

SSN's, full names, addresses, account numbers, medical records, and so on.
