Rifle Scopes Using red dot for BUS

Was thinking about using an open reflex red dot (mounted at 45-degrees) on my Armalite AR31 as back up sight for assistance with target acquisition for when my Nightforce NSX is at full zoom and I lose target. Originally planned to go with a Trijicon RMR 3.5 MOA (same one that sits atop my ACOG) , but then I read a few reviews that claimed the Bushnell TRS-25 was an incredible bang-for-the-buck. I really like the adjustable brightness feature for low light conditions, but I'm skeptical that a $79 sight will last longer than the first magazine of .308. However, some folks swear by them and claim years of service with zero failure (mostly on 12-gauge shotguns).

I don't mind paying top dollar for quality BUS, but if it's not absolutely necessary for my application then I wouldn't mind saving $350 either. I respect the membership of this forum and trust the opinion of you folks (with far more experience than I), so if anyone here has used the TRS and could possibly give me some feedback, it would be greatly appreciated.

I used a TRS25 on an AK for a few years and it was awesome for the $100 I paid for it. Held zero well and never had to change the batteries in that time so battery life is excellent and efficient. I like the idea of using it for quick acquisition on a bolt gun. Should do well with that. It will handle recoil and for quick target sighting out to 200 yards it should work nicely.

Why not do a top mount? Like the Burris Fast Fire III, Leupold Deltapoint, or Trijicon are set up for. Even EOTech makes one that can be top mounted to the scope. If its just for acquisition.

Have used most of the small red dot sights.

I have had the best results with Doctor, Leupold Delta Point and Trijicon RMR - all good.
I am currently testing the latest from C-More and Firepoint, so far so good!

I have had very poor results from the cheaper sights. Lenses come loose, electronics fail, lenses scratch easily, lose zero...

Why not do a top mount? <snip>

The elevation adjustment knob on my Nightforce NSX is pretty tall (not quite THIS tall, but you get the idea)...

I cant imagine mounting an RMR directly on top of it, the RMR mount would have to be hella-high to clear the knob.
