At 29 Palms, upwards of 900 actors at a time are used...some being Afghan Americans. We once used Iraqi Americans. As you will see, we have the training IED's, all the simulated wounds that you will witness. Yes, we have actors that have amputated limbs to portray injured Marines, the simulated RPG's, etc. It is extrememly real.
We have a couple of MOUT towns in full use ( about 300 buildings); and, then the large scale MOUT under construction. In excess of 1,200 buildings will be realized when completed...a town larger than 29 Palms with a multi-story urban core, hospital district, stadium district, diplomatic district, etc.
All elements of a real mid-sized town, capable of handling regimental training. It's 75% complete; and, sections already are in use. Almost all of these training assets are procured through Marine Corps System Command's Program Manager for Training System (PM-TRASYS. Quite different when training consisted of crawling under barb-wire with machine gun fire overhead and thrusting a bayonet into a make-believe enemy.
