I believe I came across one today. Stock is correct but the barrel has been cut down to 22” I believe. It’s 308 post 64 with a serial number as follows: G1149548
Clerk at the LGS said it was on consignment and came from Okie. They wouldn’t let me take pics. Price out the door was $1500. It had some crappy BSA scope on it. Any way to check the serial to find out for sure?

Not worth anywhere near that IMO, not even if it had military provenance seeing as how the barrel has been clipped
Paid $300 OTD for mine, it's not mil and in 243 though.
The one you speak of look something like this?

From an enthusiastic Win model 70 collector ( me ) - scope obviously doesn't add any value - I agree that with the barrel cut the value drops precipitously and no way to check the serial number for provenance. To my thinking - about 1/2 the asking price would be a gift to them ( about 1/3 the asking price to me is very realistic ). Hope this helps.

Yes it could be a Palma but like I posted the barrel has been cut and re-crowned. I will go by tomorrow at lunch and see if it has receiver holes for peep sight. It has the exact same stock and parkerized finish. It also has clip slot on rear receiver ring.

Serial number seems higher than I remember seeing, but CMP did sell/auction US marked 70's back in the day... they would have records if it went through them. The AMU will have even more detailed records then CMP if it was ever a team rifle, just need to send an inquiry to them.

To the best of my memory pre-64's were around $1500 from CMP near the end. Don't remember post 64's prices. Van Orden hype/craze got pretty wild for a period of time. Those regularly fetched well over $5k at auction...
