Anyone ordered one of the IBA XM3 scope bases from PTG?
I’m trying to hold out for LRIs offering, but after picking up a PVS-22 this week, I’m ready to get these parts sent off.

PTG did say for an extra $20 they would engrave the S/N of the receiver on the left side like the real XM-3s have.

Not yet but i've been keeping up with them doing all these clone parts - the dudes are super committed to getting things correct and supporting the clone community.

Can't wait for some of the other projects they have coming out

Thinking of selling a couple guns to fund an XM3 build. I've been going back and forth on a M40a1 build. I think the XM3 might be a little more exciting. Wanted to start the long haul for finding a good builder/parts. I think suppressor/flash hider will be the bitch of the build. But wanted to see about a builder. I know with m40's there are preferred guys and they seem to be disappearing... Is there a specific smith recomendation for the XM3 build?

He has been talking about retiring.

Real xm3 are not engraved with markings on the scope base on either side. None of the 25 issued rifles on CMP that sold are engraved.

Yeah I noticed that after taking a closer look at all the photos of the cmp guns. I had assumed the issued guns were from looking at the photos in this thread https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/xm-3-on-cmp-what’s-the-story-behind-these.7114226/

I guess just the shop and civilian versions were marked that way. I like the idea of more serialized parts though so I had it done for mine.

Just a heads up. PTG will engrave the SN of your receiver on their IBA xm3 scope base for an extra $20
Unfortunately, PTG is another one of those dealers who have absolutely no idea how the original rifles were made and marked. Just because they offer a something as a service, it doesn't mean that was an actual characteristic on a real military rifle.

There's nothing wrong with you building your rifle the way you want, just as long as people are aware that's not a characteristic on the issued USMC rifles. I went back and looked at my posts in that thread, and realized that I didn't specifically say that the markings on the test rifle's scope base are unique to that test rifle. I just updated that post so people are aware that the markings on the scope base were not on the issued USMC XM3's.

Well, as things always go, just when I’d decided I really didn’t need and XM-3 and started selling off parts, I found an IBA barreled action that was only 31 numbers away from a known XM3 and had the correct barrel. Then I found what is supposed to be a contract overrun A1-3 stock, and here we are.

Still need to find an EFR (there’s one on GB but I’d really like a CMP marked one…) and a rail (I struggle to give PTG any $ at all anymore). And shoutout to @kft101 for taking pity on me and helping with a CA762SSAL/RE.

And the closest serial number rifle:

Pacific tool and gauge my dude.

All true. Call me a snob but I can’t disgrace an IBA build with PTG markings on the UNS. @FUNCTIONAL I emailed Chad a week or so ago to see if they were doing another run, but I’m sure he’s busy as I haven’t heard back yet. BG defense also makes a sanitized copy, as did an unknown contractor for McMillan (that they sold with some recent XM3 stocks). I’d guess SOL Strategic but no confirmation of that.

Do you think IBA builds them? No they send them to Hart for barrel work and from what I understand when they did my build PTG does the clip slot oh and like mine they add a US engraving I never asked for. Still at LRI waiting for mine to be fixed

Sorry not upset with you. Just unless it’s an original XM3 I would not care. IBA is a joke

Hmm.... I think you dudes are on a different level of 'Tism than me. Which I tip my hat to. I'm happy if it looks the part. I've had no issue with PTG myself but I don't want to poo hoo the people that HAVE had bad experiences. To me, if my only option is a clone, i'll probably do it, provided that it's dimensionally the same as the original. If the difference is having my XM3 or not because i'm looking for some unicorn part that went out of production 20 years ago, i'll take my XM3. I haven't looked recently but back when I built my XM3, the chances of finding an OG IBA UNS mount was less likely than finding a coherent thought pattern at a Democrat rally. Having said that though.... you see those "clone" MIRS rails? No thanks....

I have a LRI xm3 mount unused right now. If he doesn't get back to you shoot me a PM. I was going to use it in another build (non clone) but a Badger would work just as well if I had to.

Oh yeah, we’ve chatted on it. At least old IBA just sent to Hart and PTG wasn’t involved at all.

Will let you know, appreciate it.
