I FINALLY got everything together to reload a few .223 rounds, with varget powder...I just fired off a few last night-to check the function of the rounds-& WOW! They feel stronger than any of the factory rounds that I'm used to shooting...the primers weren't bulged back out of the pockets, so I guess I'm good to go on the pressure. I loaded them with 25 grains, the sierra book I use called for 26 as max...anybody else out there suprised at the strength felt with this powder?

Re: varget powder

69 gr sierra moly BTHP--I was just wondering if anybody else got the "wow factor" I got, comparing the felt recoil and power to factory loads...

Re: varget powder

That is my go to load that I shoot about 100 a week of - in non moly using 26 g varget. I m getting .5 moa all day long. My gun is a little heavy, so I never "felt" more or less...

Re: varget powder

I really like Varget, but it doesn't meter nearly as accurately as H335 (or other ball powders, I'm assuming) in my case-activated powder drop. IF they could just make those "sticks" a bit smaller...

I have a 17lb rifle equiped with a brake... perceived recoil, with this rifle anyway, is pretty much same same in all cases.

Varget deffinately offers some good results, but I cant say I have noticed a felt difference compared to other powders.

Re: varget powder

I have found that (in 223/5.56) the weight of the bullet has more to do with perceived recoil than the weight of the powder. You can feel the torque difference on the gun from 55gr store boughts and my 24.3 gr with 69 gr bullets hand loads.
