Do these numbers seem right? I have not gone any further with this load although the velocity spread is the tightest I've ever made and the accuracy was astounding. This was a quickie load development to see if this rifle likes Varget.

Re: Varget test

Hart barrel suppressed if that makes any difference. I did 5 other loads -.4gr at a time down to 42gr with less accuracy and 20-35fps spreads. Chrono is a cheaper model but has been spot on for my drop chart program.

All 3 of my .308's favor Varget, I've tried to make em love other powders, 748, H380, N550, N150 nothing comes close; year round season to season Varget shines.

That velocity is quick for a 20" pipe with that 43.8 gr load, and a 5 fps SD, I'd be stocking up a pile of that lot of powder if I was you bro. Out of curiosity what's your OAL or length to ogive, velocity spikes in my rifles when I seat to mag length?

I don't know, a few thousandths short of AICS mag length.
I have never had a load this close in velocity spread. I haven't tested it at any further than 100yds yet. I hope it holds it's accuracy further out.

Re: Varget test

Kind of off the subject but does anyone have a guess as to what the velocity of 45.5 grains of varget, 155 grain lapua scenar, rem. 9 1/2 lr primer, lapua brass, seated at 2.824 oal should be? The rifle is a GAP Crusader .308 with a 22" barell. Chrony is messed up and trying to get some guesstimations. Thanks

Re: Varget test

My 26.5 inch Rock 5R does 2720 ft/secs with that load and single digit SD's. Accuracy is best as well. Can't go higher with the can on because of dwell time issues (over pressure) Without the AAC Cyclone the best load for my barrel is 44.6 grains, velocity of 2790 ft/secs.

Re: Varget test

The group sounds great and the velocity spread is minimal

I just chrono'd my 700 PS, 26" barrel
175 smk moly
Varget: 45.0 gr

I was seeing 2611 fps with 43 gr of Varget, single digit ES from a 20" factory Rem barrel. 45 gr of Varget wasn't going much faster and ES was higher.
Take it out to 600 and see what it does.
Factory barrel or custom barrel/chamber?

Re: Varget test

amazing! exactly the load I use.

My load even shoots 2680fps from 22" GAP

Re: Varget test

I have found that between 44 - 45.5 (Varget) behind a 175 SMK, my velocities vary by about 30 FPS max.

This is my sweet spot. So my load is
44.75 Varget
Federal 210
Federal Brass

Avg FPS = 2702

I'm getting 2568 fps average with SD of 7 and ES of 19.

I'm getting 2550ish out of my VTR with 44.5 varget using the match kings.

Pretty sure you and I shot next to each other @ the 1500 yard range a few weeks back.

1500 yds sounds pretty bad ass.... I use 45 gr. Varget 175 SMK on all my bolt .308s the only thing that changes between them is the velocity. 26" i think is around 2680 fps. that gets to 1k in 10.5 mils, I dont remember my 18" velocity..
