Varget where to start? Question

I am going to try som Varget in my .308 AAC. I am going to start at 42gr and work up to about 44gr? I will be using a 168 Hornady bullet. Does that sound right.

Sounds good, max gr is 46 i believe for the varget per the info on the one lb can.
I started out at 41gr and found 41.5 to shoot very accurate at 100 to 150 yards at around 1590 fps. 43.5 is my sweet spot at 2685 fps using 168 smk's. Good luck.

With 168 SMK, the Hodgdon data on their site shows start at 42gr and end at 46gr.
My Hornady Seventh Edition handbook show max at 44gr. Quite a bit of difference but, I think, Hornady stops low because the data is generic for several different styles of 168 gr bullet. IMHO, if you are no happy when you get thru the 44gr then slowly move on up, watching for pressure signs as you go.

44 grains of Varget and 168 amax was my most accurate load in a savage fcp 308
