To me BDC spells "trouble", because it's computed for <span style="text-decoration: underline">one</span> particular round. Once you get a different ammo - with different bullet, or amount of charge, or whatever - that nice BDC has to be re-computed to something like "mark 2 is 176m, mark 4 is 343m" and so on.
One could say "but in the military they're issued one type of round, so BDC is fine". Well, even that isn't quite true: e.g. for the "main" round it has been (and still is) 55gr FMJ. Then 62gr entered the fray. Then 69gr... Then 79gr... With those changes all the convenience that BDC offers disappears rather fast (IMHO).
What I'm trying to say - it seems that a MilDot (with mil/mil adjustments) reticle would be far more useful. As for ACOG and such - the reticle part is great, the BDC marks on the vertical stem - (IMHO) not so cool (but then it's unlikely to be used beyond 300m-400m anyway).
