I’m having a Mcwhorter 7mm STW Build. Struggling with Vortex Razer 2cnd Generation 4-27 X 56 mm obj.
Or NightForce atacr 5-25 X 56 mm obj.
FFP or SFP?
Primary use will be long range game hunting.
Thank You for your suggestions

Of those two, only the Nightforce is offered as a second focal plane.

I would say consider the following:

-Price, edge goes to Vortex
-Weight, edge goes to NF
-Reticle choice, slight edge to NF (more options in their FFP line)
-Resale value, edge goes to NF
-Warranty, both stellar

I would eliminate the Razor Gen II from your search due to this being a hunting rifle and that scopes weighs 3 lbs and instead decide between the ATACR and Razor AMG.

And if you do that, then I would point you to this thread that was about 8 posts below yours.

Thank You
I use a NF ATACR 5-25x56 2nd focal plane for hunting and general LR target shooting, wouldn't change a thing .
Thank You. I have a NightForce NXS 5.5-22 X 56 that I’ve had on a 338 Win Mag for many years. You’ve convinced me to stay with NF. ATACR 5-25 X56 SFP it is. Thank You

I use the same NXS 5.5-22X56 on several of my rifles. Bought the 5-25X56 ATACR SFP a few years back. You will be very happy with it. I really like the MOAR-T reticle.

Correct me if I’m wrong but as long as you’re not using the reticle for ranging or holdovers, there is no real advantage to a FFP. Right?
Not just holdovers - even if you dial elevation and hold wind, the reticle won't be right except for at one magnification.

I suppose if you dial elevation and wind all the time, it wouldn't matter. But you're essentially turning your scope into something with a duplex reticle at that point.

I ended up with a 4-16x42 Mil-C ATACR

I wanted the 2.5-10 NXS in mildot but couldn't find one in stock. The additional 10oz gave me 16x, FFP, better turret for hunting, and better glass.

My vote goes to the AMG for a hunting rifle, the weight is perfect, love the locking turrets, you have all the holdovers you could ever need. I think the glass is very good coming from a 50mm objective and the warranty is second to none if you happen to take a spill with your rifle, your covered.. Here is one on my 223 Tikka Varmint..
