Re: Vortex PST 4-16x50 FFP mil/mil real lowdown

My initial review of the initial run of 4-16 PSTs

Latest updates:

1. Vortex apparently improved the feel of the knobs.

2. I ended up selling it. I just couldn't get used to the lower glass quality when compared to my Premier. Sustained target images on 16x would give me a headache. I never had that problem with higher-end glass.

Here's another review that second's my opinion of the glass;

I love mine. I have that exact configuration. I shoot out to 1,000 yds. with no headaches. Impeccable tracking, I've shot with it at my range and in matches and it has performed magnificently. I've performed a 100 yd. ladder test (with the Horus mil. ladder) up and down 10 mils and it climbed up and returned back to zero all shots within .5 moa of the ladder cross members and each other, relatively speaking. At the match, if I dialed on the right dope for the UKD targets (we had to dope the range) it was a first round hit on steel.

I called Liberty Optics on Friday to order this exact scope for my Rem 5R. They suggested I buy the new Weaver Tactical. They are now owned by ATK. After reading many praises about Liberty, I think I might lay the cash down on this suggestion. they made it sound like a good buy.

Any comments???

I own that Weaver also. I find the glass to be better than the 4-16 Vortex. No headaches for me. The glass ain't perfect though. Mine has some distinct chromatic aberrations. I get blue and yellow blooming coming off any white target backgrounds. The locking turrets are kinda cheesy also.

It is good enough that I'm keeping it though. In this price range, I must learn to life with some compromise.

I have the same scope on a 1/8 twist 24" White Oak barreled AR in .223. I put 1200 rounds through this setup over a 3 day prairie dog shooting marathon. Most of the shots with this rifle varied from 275 yds out to 700 yds. I did a whole lot of cranking on the elevation knob and held the wind with the reticle. It tracked fine throughout this and returned to zero with no issues.

I believe it's a good optic for the money.
