Rifle Scopes Vortex PST Gen II

Got mine today. Quick review of what I see so far. I'm posting pics of my newest project. It's will be coated shortly.

-Glass... It's brighter and more crisp. Nice improvement for this price point but not to Razor Gen 1 quality IMO

-Turrets... Nice clicks, size is good, and zero stop is nice.

- Eye box... It is still tight at high mag but it is better than the previous generation.

- Illumination... Love the side location and seems brighter than my gen1.

- mag ring... Silky smooth. Not like my gen 1 that damn near needs a vise grips to move.

Ebr-4 reticle... I'm really digging this new reticle. Thickness is just about perfect for my eyes. I will see how I like it after a few trips in the field.

My only complaint after one afternoon of messing with it, the finish is too shiny. This is the first optic that I'm considering coating. Pretty disappointed with the finish honestly.

Overall it sounds like the upgrade we've hoped for, at least for me, I wasn't expecting Razor glass even Gen 1, but an upgrade over the existing PST, time will tell how it holds up but Vortex has a pretty good track record of late. Curious why they went with this new "shiny" finish? Nice rig Sprayed, loving the spiral flutes.

Got an email from Optics Planet. Looks like they are now in stock.

How would you compare it to the XTRII?

I don't see anything in stock yet. The expected date is still 21-28 day but that may be for new orders. I am around 100'ish on the order list for a 5-25 FFP and haven't heard anything from OP yet.

I see where the AMG moved up to 3-5 months also. Good times are coming.

Mine came in today. All I have to compare it to is my 6-24x50 HST. From just handling it the glass defiantly looks better than Gen 1. The turrets are also very nice.. big improvement over gen1. Looking forward to getting this mounted. Hopefully I can hit the range this weekend.

I put a order in for a 5-25 and a 3-15 both FFP about 3 months ago I'll let you guys know when I get them. I also have a couple Gen 1 PST FFP 6-24 as well so I'll do a back to back comparison..

I ordered from Optics Planet yesterday, when the wait showed 21-28 days. They sent me an email a bit ago suggesting it would be 2-3 months.

mother fuckers, i ordered mine december 9th direct from vortex

Yep,

I had one on order with them through promotive for the mil discount. Got a message last week saying the wait time would be another 2-4 months. Going through promotive, I was also getting hit with sales tax, that took a significant chunk out of the discount. I canceled the order and went through sport optics. The difference ended up being about $60. Was worth it to get right away instead of wondering for weeks or months.

The mil program is decent but for some reason the wait time is always longer, much longer in some cases.

Glad to see these are trickling in! If anyone gets a chance to compare these to a Burris XTR 2, I'd be forever in your debt!

I ordered mine Jan 5 and their estimate was 15-26 days, so Jan 31 max. Still no scope. Welcome to the club of suckers fooled by BS OpticsPlanet estimates.

Best of luck. I'm fine with it. There really isn't another scope in the price range I want. Odds are good I'll get the 3-15x 44mm one for my .223 700 next year to replace the Primary Arms scope on it now.

Coupon codes are not working for me on the PST Gen 2

I had the same problem with the website. It says on the website to call if the coupon doesn't work, which I did and placed the order with the discount over the phone.

Got mine today, first impressions are positive. Way better than the Gen I PST.

Was told today that the wait on new pst gen 2 ffp scopes could be between 3-5 months. Could be shorter was also mentioned. Just a heads up

Uploaded a quick video of my pst gen2. You get a good look at the turrets and also the illuminated reticle at 1, 5, and 10 power:

I've heard that the finish on the Gen II is a bit on the shiney/glossy side. But the pics/video don't really show it as overly glossy. What are your (both of you) impressions having seen one in person? Acceptable glossiness, or is it too much?

Thanks.

It's hard to describe...it does have more shine to it than previous versions, but to me it's not that shiny to be a deal breaker. Is it a target indicator if you were to be in direct light? I would guess yes. I'm using it on a long range hunting gun so I'm not too worried about animals seeing it. I wish I could give you a better answer, it's just so hard to describe.

My buddy checked them out at shot for me as I'm needing an optic for my RPR 6.5. Glass is still made overseas. He told me to pass. I bought a razor amg instead. I value his opinion as he has looked through hundred of different optics over the years without being one sided or prejudice towards a company.

You were looking into a Miata, and your buddy recommended a Porsche Cayman S instead? Good friend.

Glad you skipped the upgrade path and jumped straight to the finish line instead. Most scopes $2100+ are going to be very very good. (and your scope comes with a warranty no Porsche will ever have)

Wish WJM308 would do a $1,000 mid level scope comparo that includes this optic. Would be helpful for people shopping in the $800-1,600 price range. XTR2, PST2, Athlon, DMRii, etc.

Maybe a weighted ranking? ie. this scope is better than that one, but not for the price...

Thanks. I currently have a Gen I PST 4-16x50, and your pictures don't seem any glossier that that one is. Once the MRAD FFP's come out and we're sure they're all they say they are, I'd like to pick one up. I guess if I really NEEDED it to me completely non-reflective, there's always paint, or a scope cover. I hunt with a Bushnell that's very glossy. Hasn't cost me yet, that I know of.

It's not glossy. It has a satin finish (think indoor house paint, flat vs satin). I have other scopes with this satin finish. Doesn't bother me one bit..

How about XTR II DMR II LRTS PST II. I have a 5-25 on order. Just put the LRTS through it yesterday and was pretty impressed.

YES.

Many shooters with $1,000 burning a hole in their pockets... but not much more...

eagerly await your comparo results.

Their rifles are scopeless and essentially useless until your results are released. Then, and only then can orders can be placed.

(Humor, not sarcasm. Internet sucks for tone. I respect your write ups greatly.)

Thanks. Yes he is a good friend. He didn't want me to buy something I may regret. He was pretty bent on nightforce for my price range but the atacr I wanted was a little much even with a little help from a vendor. Buy once cry once right? Plus with the AMG backordered Ive been able to save for it plus a spuhr mount and ammo. The 100% USA made factor, warranty, and the new ways Vortex is putting everything together in the optic put the AMG in my shopping cart. No regrets at all.

I noticed MidwayUSA has updated their projected availability for the MRAD 5-25x, the MRAD 3-15x and the MOA 3-15x from 3/21 to Temporarily Unavailable. That doesn't seem like a good sign.

I put my hands on one over the weekend, glass is better, turrets are better but small, and the finiish makes it look cheap. Its definently a nicer product imo. But id take a gen 1 razor over it any day. Price points are not much different if you look around

I currently have a viper pst 4-16 on my tikka CTR 6.5 20", I'm debating between the Razor Gen 1 and the Nightforce SHV 4-14x50 F1. This gun is mostly going to be used for ringing steel at an 800 yard range and occasional hunting. Which one would you recommend?

Ive owned both shv and nxs in similar power range. I like the Gen 1 razor better than both. I give it an edge glass wise on both as well as mechanically and i love the ebr2 reticle. Cant speek to ruggedness i don't beat my shit up. Its to expensive lol. I ended up getting my gen 1 razor for 1350 shipped to my door. Its worth calling around to the big online guys to get some pricing.

The timer at Optics Planet still keeps counting down to around the end of this month. While I'm always a bit skeptical about these kinds of dates I put a little faith in this after the past few months of dates going up and down. This current date has been steadily counting down for the past 2 weeks. We shall see in 13 to 20 days.

I would have to agree. I like the Gen one Razor better than the SHV.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I'm going to see who can give me the best price. I was interested in going for the AMG but wanted something with a lower power and the gen 1 is about half the price!
