Hey guys, just a quicky for you here but I'm having some trouble wrapping my brain around this:

Vortex Optics advertises their Razor HD as having 36 Mils of travel...which is a royal dick-ton of travel. They dont mention much of anything reguarding turret set-up on their site though.

In LL's review of the Razor, he points out that they are double-turn with5 Mils per turn, which equals 10 Mils...

Can someone clear the air here for me?

I would interpret it as 36 mils total, so 18 mils up and 18 mils down.

At 5 mils per rev, you'd only get a bit over three rotations (15 mils). The turret appears to have three sets of numbers, so I'd guess three turns is about right.

That seems like a wierd sytem....

So the marking on the turret only represents one half of all the total travel(The posative half)?

I don't consider it weird.

With the rifle zeroed, the first complete rotation gets you 5 mils. The second complete rotation gets 10 mils. The third rotation gets you 15 mils, or at least 14.9 mils.

I don't have a picture of it, but I'm betting the three numbers listed on the turret's last whole mil mark (to the right of zero in the above picture) read; 4, (9), and (14).

It is also very common for manufacturers to list the total elevation range, knowing full well you can only use about half of it.

you can use all of it or way more of it with a canted base. The entire elevation range may not coorespond to the number of mils in the rotation, you would get 3 full revs plus 3 mils in either direction assuming your scope's actual zero on your rifle was at the exact mechanical zero of the scope. In most cases a canted base would be used, and you would get more up and a lot less down. You ideally would match the base to the scope's ability or at least to your desired result.

Not that I'm gonna need 15+ Mils, but why not just have the entire range laid out? Ive got a 12 Mil base, and 36 Mils of travel...for $2K seems like a bargain!

no, it aint double turn unless you only need 10 mils that is. Like stated above it even has marking to help you remember how many mils entered 0,5,10, then 15. I've got 24 mils up from my 200yd zero so, I have enough elevation for way past effective range of my 6.5 creedmoor

Yeah, they do. He has the canted base which is basically glued to his rifle. He sets his zero where ever he wants it, then moves the knob and locks it in. From there, it he needs 6 mils to get where he's going, he'll dial in 6 mils, the knob will read 6 mils, Hunter knows, "I've got 6 mils dialed in."

Pretty simple.

What you are asking for sir, Leupold has made for years.

Just order that optic.
